江戸時代末期。将軍・家慶の弟で明石藩主・松平斉韶（なりつぐ）の暴君ぶりは目に余った。斉韶は近く、老中への就任も決まっている男。幕府の存亡に危機感を募らせる老中・土井利位は、かねてより良く知る御目付・島田新左衛門に斉韶暗殺の密命を下す。さっそく、甥の新六郎をはじめ十一人の腕に覚えある男たちを集めた新左衛門は、後に加わる山の民・木賀小弥太を含む総勢十三人の暗殺部隊を組織、入念な計画を練り上げていく。しかし、斉韶の腹心・鬼頭半兵衛もまたその動きを抜け目なく察知し、大切な殿を守り抜くべく周到な準備を進めていた。

The older brother tries desperately to get rid of it, but in fact, the two siblings have an incestuous relationship, and Kyoko is possessed by Izuna, who is used by Kyoko's ex-husband who resents the relationship. The screen is black and white and eerie. Izuna smiles fearlessly at her. A brother and sister who cannot settle their warped love. With elaborate art reminiscent of Japanese houses and customs of the 1950s, the film brilliantly depicts a mature mystery world with a nostalgic flavour.
