「彼女たちの舞台」「美しき諍い女」で知られるフランス映画界の巨匠ジャック・リヴェットが監督した大人の愛の物語。主演は女優として、また歌手としても知られるジェーン・バーキン。東京国際映画祭では「小さな山のまわりで」というタイトルで上映された。 　イタリア人のヴィットリオは旅先で、車が故障し立ち往生するケイトという女性を助ける。彼女はサーカス団で団長を務める父が急逝したことから、一座から呼び戻され十五年ぶりに戻るところだった。ケイトに惹かれたヴィットリオはサーカスに顔を出し、徐々に彼らの生活に溶け込んでいく。やがて彼は、ケイトが十五年前になぜサーカスを去ったのか、その理由を知ることになるのだった。

Jean-Marie Straub's first film after the death of Danièlle Huillet is a love poem to her. Le Genou d'Artémide is based on Cesare Pavese's "Dialogues of Leuco", which had already been adapted by Straub et Huillet as Ces Rencontres Avec Eux (2006).

巨匠ジャック・リヴェット監督が、カンヌでパルムドールを獲得した「美しき諍い女」に続き、再びエマニュエル・ベアールをヒロインに迎えて撮り上げた愛の物語。中年の時計技師とミステリアスな美女との不思議な愛の軌跡を官能的に描く。共演は「鉄の男」のイエジー・ラジヴィオヴィッチ。 　一匹の猫と静かな生活を送っていた時計技師の中年男ジュリアン。彼はある日、１年前に知り合った美しい女性マリーと再会、互いに惹かれ合うものを感じる。一方でジュリアンは、マダムＸが取り扱っている中国産シルクの偽造証明書を入手し、彼女から金をゆすり取る計画を進めていた。ある時、ジュリアンは突然マリーから夕食へ招待され、その夜彼女の部屋ではじめて一夜を共にする。しかし翌朝ベッドにマリーの姿はなく、帰宅したジュリアンは自分の部屋が荒らされているのに呆然とする。とっさにマダムＸとマリーの共謀を疑うジュリアンだったが…。

A handful of student revolutionaries from the Seventies meet up 30 years later to plan a robbery. This is not entirely correct, because they are friends, anyway, and always have been. They play cards together and go to each others’ birthday parties, have wives and children and probably mortgages. Romain Goupil’s film appears to be a throwback to the experimental days of cinema verite. Either that or it’s a home movie, shot with a video camera, to an improvised script or no script at all.

「彼女たちの舞台」などで知られるヌーヴェル・バーグのＪ・リヴェットが、１５世紀フランスに実在した非運の英雄、ジャンヌ・ダルクの波乱に満ちた生涯を、前編の本作と、後半の「ジャンヌ／薔薇の十字架」の全編約四時間に及ぶスケールで描いた超大作。本編では神の啓示により、自らが王国を救う使命を帯びた存在であることを知った彼女が、王太子シャルルの信頼の下、オルレアンを解放するまでを描く。 　尚、本編はオリジナルより約一時間短い二時間の短縮バージョンである。真の完全版は「ジャンヌ・ダルク／I戦闘　II牢獄」としてこの後に公開されている。

前編「ジャンヌ／愛と自由の天使」に続く後編。ジャンヌ・ダルクの活躍により王座に就いたシャルル。彼女は尚も祖国のため戦いを続けるが、やがて貴族たちの不満を買い、教会による不当な裁判によって火あぶりの刑に処せられ、その波乱に満ちた壮絶な生涯を閉じる。製作費に４６０万ドルをかけ、壮大なスケールで歴史的事実を史実に忠実に描いた本作は、アカデミー特別賞、撮影賞、衣装デザイン賞を受賞した。

バルザックの『知られざる傑作』を原作に撮った、ジャック・リヴェット監督作品。孤高の画家フレンホーフェルは、自らの最高傑作“美しき諍い女”を描こうと妻をモデルにするが完成直前に破棄してしまう。そして１０年後。彼の前に、若いモデル、マリアンヌが現れた事から彼は再び“美しき諍い女”の仕上げにとりかかるが……。４時間にも及ぶ上映時間の作品でありながら、全くその長さを感じさせない傑作。セリフの全くない、デッサンを描くシーンでの鉛筆の音だけが響きわたる画家と女との緊張感溢れる場面、そして女（＝人間）の本性をキャンバスに描き込むという本作のテーマが露になる衝撃的なラスト・シーンと、その奥深い哲学的思想には思わず感服してしまう。この作品は、ビデオ化になる際に映画公開時のオリジナル・バージョンの４時間版と、１３１分のショート・バージョンの２タイプが発売されたが、何と言ってもオリジナル４時間版をお勧めする。

Directors Jean-Henri Roger and Juliet Berto begin this thriller with sequences on the contemporary politics of southern France and the infiltration of organised crime into real estate development there: crime bosses were torching forest tracts to make way for their development schemes in the early 1980s. In the fictionalised story, Paula Barretto is caught in this underworld because her father was involved in the drug business, her brother is in the real estate scam, and her lover is an armed thief. Although she tries to get out of her corrupt and dangerous environment, it is not an easy task when even the police officers cannot be trusted, and the underworld has informants everywhere.

When the three men run into a former professor of the architect and designer, they are inspired by his fanfare and expansive nature. Still in search of solutions to their particular problems, the men head out to visit the professor and get to the bottom of their own issues. Unfortunately, the professor turns out to be more "loco" than otherwise, and the three men watch their hopes burst like a popped balloon -- it seems like their ability to assess human character should now be added to their list of problem spots.
