スイス・ジュネーブの粒子加速器研究所で、ビッグバンを再現する実験が行なわれようとしていた。だが実験は失敗、極小ブラックホールが生み出されてしまったことが判明する。この影響により、人工衛星が軌道を狂わせて落下、航空機が市街地に墜落するなどの大惨事が発生する。かねてから実験の危険性を訴えていた元研究所員ゾフィーは、ドイツ首相からの特命を受け、粒子加速器を停止させるべく現地へと向かう。
