Alfred Chamberlain, who suffers from an inability to feel or to be passionate about anything, meets Patsy Newquist, who takes it upon herself to mold him into "a strong, vital, self-assured man that I can protect and take care of."

When New York attorney Gordon Hocheiser meets Louise Callan, the girl of his dreams, he schemes to eliminate his aging, senile mother, even though he promised his late father that he'd always take care of her. He fears that his batty mom's eccentricities will shortly lead to Louise's departure.

Mike Vecchio and Susan Henderson are preparing for their upcoming wedding. However, they seem to be the only two people at the wedding that are happy. All this is going on while Mike's best friend Jerry is trying to bed the maid of honor, Susan's cousin Brenda.
