略歴

Miloš Kopecký was a Czech actor, active mainly in the second half of the 20th century.  He was born into the family of craftsmen, Kopecký was involved with music and theater throughout his entire life.  Starting on stage in 1939, as a member of an amateur elocution group, Kopecký performed with numerous young artists during the German occupation of then Czechoslovakia.  Near the end of World War II, Kopecký’s mother was murdered at the Auschwitz concentration camp for her Jewish heritage, while Miloš was interned in the labor camp Bystřice u Benešova.  He would later credit these experiences as the cause for his struggle with Bipolar Disorder, then known as Manic-Depressive Disease.   Following the liberation, Kopecký began acting in the avant-garde studio Větrník in 1945, before joining the Vinohrady Theatre in 1965 at the behest of then-director František Pavlíček.  Kopecký  continued to make guest appearances at theaters throughout Prague, working with many notable actors of his era before appearing on film and television.  His first minor role was in the historic film Jan Roháč z Dubé (1947), but he quickly graduated to more important characters and gradually became one of the most popular actors in Czechoslovakia.   He may be best known today as Dr. Štrosmajer in the Czech television series Nemocnice na kraji města.  During his career he played mainly negative roles of traitors, lechers, and villain, which he famously depicted with elegance and esprit.   In the mid-1980s Kopecký acted in a politically biased documentary film about emigrants, and also presented very critical speech against current communist régimes in May, 1987, at the Fourth Congress of Dramatic Artists.  He was married five times, at one point to Czech actress Stella Zázvorková.

Prague – The Restless Heart of Europe
(uncredited)
This distinctive documentary portrait of Prague extolls the beauty, significance and spirit of the ancient city adopting modern way of life. The form and content of the film share a common underlining principle. The author doesn't simply list out the sequence of events, but rather approaches them in a broader context of their historic implications and circumstances. The content of the film covers a large period from the pagan times to these days. The facts are grouped under several general headings (paganry, the spread of Christianity, renaissance, baroq and modern times) with allusions to the modern life of Prague and Praguers that has its roots in those times.

JUDr. Lukášek
In an unusual, apolitical approach, director Jaromil Jires has fashioned a standard drama that features an older lawyer with failing health who goes to practice in the countryside. His series of odd court cases reveals more about the human condition than about law. In one of these litigations a wayward nephew has cheated his elderly aunt out of her savings. In court, the nephew insists the money was a gift, but his aunt explains she only gave him the money as a loan. Although the lawyer technically wins the case, everything of value seems lost in the meantime. His services are paid for in rabbits because the aunt has no currency, and in the end, the nephew cons his aunt into parting with her savings anyway. Other cases expose similar types of petty corruption.

The arrogance of the King leads him to gather all the salt in the kingdom and destroy it. Of course, this backfires as he slowly learns the universal value of the substance, and of course, the essence of his daughter's reply. With the help of the wise and magical old 'herb woman', the King also learns what it means to be a true and wise ruler.

The Proud Princess
Kancléř
It's very human and nice story about lofty princess (her father is amiable but incapable - unforgettable performance of S. Neumann) and good, nice, kind and well-principled young king (prince) who tries to make tender her calm heart to get married with her. After being refused (she's very capricious), he conclude to make her better. He start to work as a gardener at her castle (in secret) and successively bring she to her senses...The story continues when already reformed princess and the young king (she learn about his real identity later) have to take refuge from troops, that princess father (old king) has sent (of course he took a bad and mean counsellors advice). They have to take shelter by several ordinary and poor families, which are always very friendly and give them a help... Of course the tale has happy end.
