추억, 사랑, 그리고 내일. 이슬비처럼 촉촉하고 태양처럼 빛나는 시절을 살아가는 청춘의 이야기가 시작된다. 중국의 세 도시를 배경으로 펼쳐지는 옴니버스 애니메이션.

돈에 눈이 먼 마을 촌장에게 대항하기로 결심한 광부 ‘따하이’, 폭력이 지배하는 현실에 회의를 느낀 시골 출신의 청부살인업자 ‘조우산’, 유부남 애인과의 이별을 준비하는 사우나 직원 ‘샤오위’, 어린 나이에 가족의 생계를 책임지게 된 청년 ‘샤오후이’. 이들은 참혹한 현실에 부딪혀 거부할 수 없는 운명과 마주하게 되는데…

염색 공장주인 양금산은 50이 넘어 젊은 처녀 국두를 돈으로 사와 폭행을 하며 못살게 군다. 매일 아침 국두의 모습을 훔쳐 보던 금산의 조카 천청은 상처투성이인 그녀에게 분노와 애정을 느낀다. 금산이 집에 없는 어느날 천청과 국두는 용서할 수 없는 사랑을 맺고, 다음해 여름 천백이 태어난다. 사실을 모르는 양금산은 아이의 탄생을 기뻐하고 천청은 아버지로서 자기 아이를 대하지 못하는 것에 괴로워한다. 중풍으로 쓰러진 금산은 천백이 자기 아이가 아닌 것을 알고 더구나 3살이 되도록 말한마디를 안하고 웃지도 않는 천백에게 살의를 품고 염색통에 떨어뜨리려고 한다. 그 순간 천백이 "아버지"라고 부르자 감동한 금산은 기쁨을 감추지 못한다. 그러나 어느날 천백과 놀던 금산이 실수로 염색통에 빠져 죽어가자 천백은 태어나 처음으로 웃는다. 금산이 죽은지 10년, 천백은 좀처럼 천청을 따르지 않고, 국두와의 관계를 알고 오히려 증오만 커갈 뿐이다. 어느날 국두와 천청이 마지막 사랑을 나누고 의식을 잃는데...

대부의 화려한 집이 익숙해질 무렵 슈셍은 사람들이 잔인하게 살해되는 모습과 보배의 또 다른 정부를 목격하는 등 자신도 모르는 사이 점점 마피아 세계에 빠져들기 시작한다. 그러던 어느 날, 대부의 집이 습격을 받아 슈셍을 시골에서 불러 온 삼촌을 비롯해 조직원 일부가 살해되는 사건이 일어나자 보배와 대부일행은 슈셍을 데리고 작은 섬으로 피신하는데...

중국 셴양의 티엑시 공업지구. 이곳은 일제점령기에 생겨나 해방 후 빠른 속도로 성장하기 시작했으나 1990년대에 이르면서 하나 둘씩 문을 닫는다. 한때 100만 명이 넘는 노동자가 일하던 티엑시의 쇠퇴와 이 곳 주민들의 삶을 그린 이 작품은 중국 다큐멘터리 역사에 새로운 획을 그었다. 감독은 철거명령이 내려진 도시에 6밀리 카메라 하나만을 들고 2년여 동안 촬영하는 열정을 보였다.

British sad sack Gary is a failed entrepreneur who has just arrived in Beijing's stylish Sanlitun district, allegedly to start a business. He soon hooks up with Frank, a trust-fund kid from Australia who offers to mentor Gary in Eastern ways, although Frank's pedagogical method is restricted to yelling at Gary for being a Westerner and not being as "Chinese" as him.

Chinese authorities cannot seize the plane because of the presence of an important business figure on board, but agree to cooperate with Taiwanese authorities to defuse the tense situation.

She goes to Beijing to visit the one she was in love ten years ago, and who was not accepted by her parents.

(2018년 제23회 부산국제영화제) 격변기 중국의 인물과 공간을 담은 작품. 영화는 중국 전역을 다니면서 공간의 한순간을 잠시 주목한다. 광산촌, 어촌, 도시 공장, 건설 현장, 농촌, 학교, 병원 등의 다양한 공간에서 광부, 노동자, 어부, 농부, 병자, 학생 등 다양한 인물을 포착한다. 영화는 개발이 대성황을 이루던 때 그 이면 속 인물과 공간을 가만히 비춘다. 그러다 공간 속 인물 중 한 명과 조용히 눈을 마주치며 무언의 교감을 시도한다. 때로는 그가 감독 자신이기도 하다. 마치 아우구스투 잔더의 사진처럼, 영화는 사진의 정적인 리듬과 영화의 동적인 리듬을 감각적으로 품으면서 공간의 사람들, 특히 서민들을 담아낸다. 영화는 공간 속 인물을 파편적인 조각들로 수집해 중국 사회의 단면을 총체적으로 보여준다. 조각을 맞추다 보면, 그 조각들이 모여 동시대 중국 사회 그 자체로 마주하게 한다. 국내에서는 로 유명한 왕샤오슈아이 감독의 최신작이다. 은 강한 내러티브를 벗어나 영화와 사진과 미술 영상의 경계를 가로지른다. They were drawn by the promise as they saw it, of profound social revolution. Joan Hinton was a physicist, one of the few women to have worked on the Manhattan Project to develop the atomic bomb. Sid Engst was from Cornell University in up state New York, and a specialist in agriculture. This is a fascinating account of the lives these two Americans built for themselves in the very midst of China's most troubled times.

This short documentary follows a group of students from Hamilton, Ontario, on a rare three-week “tour” of China in 1972. These teenagers were the first North American students to visit China since 1949, when Mao Tse Tung’s Communists overthrew the Nationalist Government of Chiang Kai-shek.
