The Sweet Life (1981)

Two teachers, man-hungry Doris and restrained Marian, visit the Yorkshire moors a year after friend Evelyn disappeared there. On a stormy night, they take refuge in the isolated cottage of Stephen, one-time pianist shell-shocked in the Spanish Civil War. Doris flees as soon as the flood subsides; but Marian's suspicions about Evelyn's fate, in conflict with her growing love for Stephen, prompt her to stay on among the misty bogs.

1909년 영국 요크셔(Yorkshire, England). 데이브와 토미는 엠스데일이라는 작은 탄광촌에서 탄광 사고로 아빠를 잃고 루크라는 새 아빠와 살고 있다. 엠스데일에서는 석탄을 나르는 말들을 쓰고 있는데, 데이브와 토미는 그 중에서도 일 잘하는 플래쉬를 제일 좋아한다. 그러던 중 새로운 광산 감독이 오고 그는 광산의 적자를 해소하기 위해 말들을 없애고 석탄을 운반하는 기계를 들여놓기로 한다. 그에게는 알리스라는 데이브 또래의 딸이 하나 있다. 말들이 도살장으로 보내질 거라는 이야기를 들은 셋은 말들을 구해내기로 하고 폐쇄된 갱도를 통해 말을 꺼내온다. 한편 광부들은 말들을 없앤다는 소리에 자신들의 생계를 걱정하게 되고 급기야는 파업을 하게 된다. 하지만 파업이 계속되면 광산이 문을 닫을 거라는 말에 작업에 복귀한 날 폭발사고가 생기고 갱도에 갇힌 사람들은 영리한 플래쉬의 도움으로 무사히 구출된다. 플래쉬는 빠져나오지 못한 채 탄광에서 숨을 거둔다. 이에 광산 주인은 자신의 땅을 말들을 위한 목장으로 내놓고 모든 마을 사람들이 모여 파티를 하는데...

영국에 사는 덜 떨어진 무슬림 네 명이 앉아서 순교 비디오를 촬영하고 있다. 이들은 자살폭탄을 가지고 순교를 해서 경각심을 불러일으키기로 하고 모인 자칭 무슬림 테러리스트 지하디들. 직접적인 자살테러 행동으로 비 이슬람권에 무슬림을 알리려는 오마는 파키스탄 훈련캠프에서 정식으로 교육을 받고자 와지와 함께 떠나지만 조직에서 좌충우돌 사고만 치고 이내 도망 오고야 만다. 한편 배리와 파이잘은 그간 모아왔던 표백제를 이용, 폭탄으로 만들어 이슬람(모스크)사원을 폭파 시키려는 계획을 세운다. 배리는 무슬림 사원을 폭파시킴으로 인해 전 세계의 무슬림들이 봉기하는 사태를 만들려고 하나 오마의 반대로 런던 마라톤 대회를 타겟으로 하게 된다. 테러를 위해 많은 준비를 하지만 그들의 계획과는 다르게 모든게 원치 않는 방향으로 자꾸만 틀어지게 되는데…

James Herriot is a vet in Yorkshire, England, during the 1940's. The film centres around Pilot Officer Peter Penrose, fresh out of a training unit, who joins the squadron, and quickly discovers about life during war time. He falls for Iris, a young girl who lives at the local hotel, but he becomes disillusioned about marriage, when the squadron commander dies in a raid, and leaves his wife, the hotel manageress, with a young son to bring up. As the war progresses, Penross comes to terms that he has survived, while others have been killed.
