블루스 밴드인 잭 프로스트 밴드의 보컬인 잭(Jack Frost: 마이클 키튼 분)은 아내 개비(Gabby Frost: 켈리 프레스톤 분)와 12살 난 아들 찰리(Charlie Frost: 조셉 크로스 분)를 사랑하는 가슴 따뜻한 남자. 하지만 잦은 투어와 녹음 일정으로 가족들과 함께 지내기가 여의치 않다. 하키 선수인 찰리의 중요한 경기를 봐주기로 약속했었지만, 녹음이 늦어지는 바람에 약속을 못 지키게 되어 찰리를 실망시키게 된 잭은 크리스마스엔 가족들끼리 오붓하게 산장에 놀러가자고 하며 찰리의 기분을 풀어준다. 하지만 출발 직전 걸려온 전화는 레코드 계약을 위한 중요한 모임에 참석케 하고, 또다시 잭은 찰리와의 약속을 못 지키게 된다. 그러나 가는 도중 마음을 바꾼 잭은 가족들에게 가기 위해 폭설 속을 무리하게 운전하다 교통사고로 목숨을 잃게된다. 1년 후. 아버지를 잃은 슬픔에 찰리의 성격은 점점 어두워지고, 찰리는 아버지 없이 맞이하게 된 첫 번째 크리스마스가 원망스럽기만 하다. 아버지와 함께 만들곤 했던 눈 사람을 혼자 만들며 눈물을 흘리는 찰리. 아버지가 남긴 하모니카를 불며 우울해하고 있던 찰리 앞에 믿기지 못할 일이 벌어진다. 자신이 만들어놓은 눈사람이 말을 하며 움직이다니! 그것은 바로 잭이 눈사람의 몸을 빌어 환생한 것! 잭은 생전에 아들과 충분한 시간을 보내지 못했다고 생각하며 찰리가 자신의 죽음을 받아들이고 긍정적으로 살 수 있게 하기 위해 노력한다. 하지만 눈사람이 움직였다는 말을 하며, 가끔씩 눈사람과 대화를 하는 광경을 목격한 엄마는 찰리에게 심각한 문제가 생긴 것이라고 생각하며 걱정하게 된다. 날이 따뜻해지자 잭의 몸은 녹아 내리고, 아버지를 또 잃을 수 없다는 생각에 필사적으로 노력하는 찰리에게 자신과의 이별을 준비시키는데.
