전쟁 중에 가톨릭 여자 학교에서 크리스마스 케이크를 둘러싸고 벌어지는 순수, 욕심, 환상이 가득한 이야기. "pupil"은 라틴어 "pupilla", 즉 여자아이라는 뜻에서 파생됐다. 이 이야기는 20세기의 가장 유명한 작가였던 엘사 모란테가 1971년 크리스마스를 맞아 친구 고프레도 포피에게 쓴 편지에서 영감을 받았다.

테넌바움가의 세 자녀는 모두 천재들이다. 일찍이 국제금융에 눈을 뜬 차스, 고교 입학 전부터 소설로 이름을 날린 마고, 테니스로 US오픈에서 3연속 우승한 리치 등 세 남매는 각자의 분야에서 최고였다. 그러나 아버지 로얄 테넌바움이 가족을 배신하고 떠나버리자 이들 남매는 별볼일 없는 어른으로 자라난다. 차스는 비행기 사고로 아내를 잃은 뒤 사고 공포증에 시달리고, 리치는 남몰래 사랑했던 마고가 결혼을 발표하자 실의에 빠져 유랑을 시작한다. 마고 역시 화장실에서 하루종일 담배만 피워대며 인생을 허비한다. 로얄 테넌바움은 말년에 이르러 자녀들과 아내를 곁에 모으려 하지만 너무 늦었는데...

자기 잘난 맛에 사는 우등생 트레이시(리즈 위더스푼)은 자신이 학교에서 따돌림 당하는 줄도 모르고 학생회장 선거에 출마한다. 트레이시는 주변의 비아냥에도 아랑곳하지 않고 당선을 위해 가열찬 선거활동을 시작한다. 그러나 트레이시가 동료교사와 스캔들을 일으킨데 불만을 품고 있던 선생 짐(매튜 브로데릭 분)은 트레이시를 낙선시키기 위한 계획을 세우기 시작한다. 그의 대책은 여학생들에게 최고의 인기를 누리는 폴(크리스 클라인)을 입후보시키는 것. 학교는 이제 예측불허의 선거열풍에 휩싸인다.

Follow a day of the life of Big Buck Bunny when he meets three bullying rodents: Frank, Rinky, and Gamera. The rodents amuse themselves by harassing helpless creatures by throwing fruits, nuts and rocks at them. After the deaths of two of Bunny's favorite butterflies, and an offensive attack on Bunny himself, Bunny sets aside his gentle nature and orchestrates a complex plan for revenge.
