Strings (2023)

An exploration —manipulated and staged— of life in Las Hurdes, in the province of Cáceres, in Extremadura, Spain, as it was in 1932. Insalubrity, misery and lack of opportunities provoke the emigration of young people and the solitude of those who remain in the desolation of one of the poorest and least developed Spanish regions at that time. (Silent short, voiced in 1937 and 1996.)

Boys, beers and bras.

Likely in June 1897, a group of people are standing along the platform of a railway station in La Ciotat, waiting for a train. One is seen coming, at some distance, and eventually stops at the platform. Doors of the railway-cars open and attendants help passengers off and on. Popular legend has it that, when this film was shown, the first-night audience fled the café in terror, fearing being run over by the "approaching" train. This legend has since been identified as promotional embellishment, though there is evidence to suggest that people were astounded at the capabilities of the Lumières' cinématographe.

One year after the death of Simone de Beauvoir (14 april 1986) Delphine Seyrig pays homage by visiting her grave. which she finds still covered with flowers and letters from all over the world.

In the middle of woods inhabited by wolves, an astrologist imagines what it would be like to be a werewolf, running and howling through the woods in a schizophrenic blur instead of sitting in his home watching videos. Then the moon calls to calls to him.

A man encounters a strange interruption during his bathroom break.

While visiting an apartment, Adrien feels a twinge of jealousy as he watches Tess, his partner, enjoy herself with another visitor. That very evening, he receives a surprise summons to return for another visit. He must go alone, Tess being otherwise detained at work. He finds himself before a dilapidated old building which already has his name on the doorbell. As soon as Adrien crosses the threshold, the house closes in on him and he is embarked on a guided tour of the twists and turns of his own jealousy.

A screenwriter contacts a prostitute to research a character of his new script.

금광을 찾아 알래스카에 온 찰리는 살인범 블랙의 오두막에서 금광을 찾았다는 멕케이를 만난다. 산속에 갖힌 이들은 원조를 청하는 제비뽑기를 한다. 블랙이 길을 떠나지만 추격중이던 경찰을 만나 죽고,찰리와 맥케이는 너무 배가 고파 구두를 끓여 먹기도 한다. 간신히 마을에 도착한 찰리는 조지아라는 무희에게 반한다. 그녀는 추근거리는 남자들을 따돌리기 위해 찰리와 춤을 추지만, 어느날 그가 자신을 좋아하고 있음을 눈치챈다. 한편 자신이 발견한 금광의 위치를 잊어버린 멕케이는 찰리와 함께 구사일생으로 금광을 다시 찾고 이들은 백만 장자가 되는데...

Badluck is a man with the head of a fish (this is a play on words in French between « poisse » – bad luck and « poisson » – fish). Bubbles of bad luck come out of his mouth. When one of the bubbles follows somebody, it throws a spell on that person. And the victim is sent into a tailspin of misery and bad luck where the worst that can possibly happen always does, right up until death, in the most incredible circumstances (but meaningless for the other protagonists) ends his or her cycle of bad luck. With dark, scathing irony, the “Badluck” Chronicles will allow you to have a great deal of fun at somebody else’s expense. And you won’t even feel guilty about it !
