시놉시스

In 1939, a group of African American intellectuals come up with an ingenious and unlikely response to Jim Crow America -- leave the planet and populate Mars. Using technology created by George Washington Carver, a three-person crew (plus one rambunctious robot) lift-off in Earth's first working spaceship on a mission that will take them to a world not unlike present-day America. Their spacey adventure illuminates some hard truths about American culture, and threatens to undermine the time-line of history along the way.

미국의 대부호 클레이몽(Jean-Marc Clement: 이브 몽땅 분) 회장은 한 연극무대에서 자신을 놀림감으로 삼는다는 이야기를 듣고 연극을 중지시키기 위해 극단을 찾아간다. 그러나 아이러니컬하게도 클레이몽은 연극배우인 아만다(Amanda Dell: 마릴린 몬로 분)를 보고 그만 짝사랑에 빠진다. 게다가 클레이몽 자신이 신분을 숨긴 채 극중에서 우스꽝스런 역할까지도 맡게 된다. 이때부터 클리이몽은 아만다의 환심을 사기 위해 갖은 노력을 다한다. 엄청난, 돈을 들여 당대 최고의 일류 개그맨과 댄서, 가수들의 레슨을 받지만 모든 것이 서툴기만 하다. 또한 클레이몽은 가난해서 빚으로 넘어가려는 극단을 살리고 자신의 부하직원을 후원자로 삼는가 하면, 아만다의 상대역이 되어 그녀의 사랑을 차지해 보려고도 하지만 역시 역부족이다. 그러나 이런 클레이몽을 언제나 격려하고 위로해 주는 아만다. 마침내 그는 아만다에게 자신의 진실한 사랑을 고백하며, 자신의 신분을 밝히지만 그녀는 믿으려 하지 않는다. 애가 탄 클레이몽은 그녀를 회사로 불러들여 자신을 믿게 하려 하는데.

어떤 휴가

죠니는 고생을 많이하며 자랐지만 하버드를 졸업한 유능한 젊은이. 어느날 그는 평생 처음 휴가를 즐기러 레이크 플레씨드에 가고, 거기서 쥴리아와 사랑에 빠진다. 둘은 결혼을 약속하고 죠니는 절친한 친구 부부 파터에게 그 사실을 알린다. 파터 내외는 죠니가 혹시 가난한 처녀를 만난 건 아닌가 걱정한다. 그러나 쥴리아가 준 주소로 찾아간 죠니는 엄청난 부유함에 놀란다. 한편 줄리아의 아버에게 죠니와 결혼하겠다고 조르고 아버지 에드워드는 죠니의 직장 상사한테 그의 사업 수완이 탁월하단 평가를 듣고 내심 흡족해한다. 쥴리아의 언니 린다와 인사한 죠니는 린다의 자유스러운 성격, 활달함에 매료되고 린다는 린다대로 죠니를 향한 사랑에 가슴앓게 된다.

대상해

우연히 살인 사건에 휘말려 감옥에서 사형 당할 처지에 놓인 청년 성대기(황효명)는 같은 감옥에 수감된 모재의 도움으로 탈옥에 성공한다. 이를 계기로 암흑의 세계로 들어선 대기는 세월이 흘러 상해 범죄조직의 우두머리 홍수정(홍금보)의 오른팔로 성장해 의형제를 맺고 상해의 거물(주윤발)이 된다. 1930년대 일제의 공세가 이어지고 반군이 움직이는 가운데 1937년 상해사변이 발발한다. 점령당한 상해, 배반과 배신이 난무하고 대기는 의리와 충성을 지키기 위해 마지막 전쟁을 준비한다.
