극장의 무대 뒤에서 일하는 재단사, 페인트공, 모형 제작자 등 익명의 노동자들의 세계. 이들 노동자들은 극장이 제대로 움직이는 데에 중요한 역할을 수행하지만, 공연이라는 최종 결과물에서는 이들의 이름이 거론되지 않는다. 극장 배우의 인기가 예전 같지는 않지만, 여전히 칭송되는 사람들은 연기자들이다. 그리고, 연기자들은 자신들을 다른 나머지 스태프들보다 우월하다고 생각한다. 로멕(Romek)은 학교를 졸업하자마자 극장 재단사의 작업실에서 일을 하게 되지만, 그가 실제로 하게 된 일은 예전에 생각했던 이상과는 너무 거리가 멀다는 것을 깨닫게 된다. 극장 노동조합은 로멕이 무례하고 건방진 어떤 배우와 말다툼을 하기 일쑤인 그의 작업실 선배와 갈등을 빚도록 만들려고 하는데…

아직 자신의 뚜렷한 방향을 찾지 못한 젊은 남자 길리압이 낡은 호텔에서 종업원으로 잠시 일하게 된다. 영화는 호텔 종업원들 간의 관계를 다루면서도 주로 젊은 길리압과 아름다운 애나의 관계에 주목한다. 부자연스러운 길리압의 모습 때문에 이들의 관계는 쉽사리 발전하지 못한다.
