바람이 몹시 부는 추운 겨울밤, 감기에 걸려 누워있는 어린 소년에게 한 할아버지가 '프린세스 브라이드'라는 책을 읽어주면서 이야기는 시작된다. 환상의 플로린 나라엔 아름다운 소녀 버터컵(Buttercup: 로빈 라이트 분)이 살고 있다. 소녀는 마음 속으론 '분부시라면'이란 대답으로 무슨 일이든 들어주는 촌뜨기 일꾼 소년 웨스틀리(Westley: 캐리 엘위스 분)를 사랑하지만 곧 이웃 나라의 왕자 훔퍼딩크(Prince Humperdinck: 크리스 새런든 분)와 결혼하기로 돼 있다. 그러나 결혼식 직전에 전쟁 도발의 음모에 휩쓸려 세 악당에게 사로잡히게 된다. 이때 검은 복면의 남자가 나타나 세 악당과 차례로 결투해 버터컵을 구출한다. 그는 웨스틀리였다. 버터컵은 웨스틀리의 생명을 위해 어쩔 수 없이 왕자에게 돌아간다. 하지만 왕자는 약속을 어기고 웨스틀리를 죽이려하는데 웨스틀리와의 결투에 진 악당 이니고와 페직이 그를 위한 구출작전이 펼친다.

보석을 차지하기 위해서라면 남자를 가리지 않는 여인 완다(제이미 리 커티스)는 그의 정부 죠지와 그의 아들 켄과 애인 오토와 함께 보석을 훔친다. 넷은 보석을 창고의 금고에 넣어두었으나 죠지는 이들 몰래 보석을 빼돌리고, 오토와 완다는 죠지가 한 짓이라고 경찰에 밀고한다. 투옥된 죠지는 보석이 든 보관함 열쇠를 바보 아들 켄에게 넘긴다. 심하게 말을 더듬는 바보 켄은 배신을 일삼는 사람들 때문에 동물들만을 믿고 사랑한다. 수족관의 상자에 열쇠를 넣어두나 이를 본 완다는 열쇠를 빼돌리고 한편 바보라는 말만 들으면 이성을 잃는 오토(케빈 클라인)는 완다를 쫓아다니며 보석을 되찾으려 한다. 결국 완다의 이국적 매력에 반해 지위와 명예를 버리고 도둑질에 합세하는 변호사 리쉬가 완다와 함께 보석을 품고 플로리다 행 비행기를 타게 된다.

Texas cattleman Opie Bedloe comes to Maine to visit his son Joe, a college instructor, and his wife Connie in the hopes of persuading Joe to give up his teaching career and come back to Texas and take over the ranch. 개국초 홍콩에서는 섬 주변에 대규모 해적무리들이 난무하여 홍콩 정부의 가장 큰 문제 거리가 되어왔다. 홍콩정부에서는 이 해적 무리들을 제거하기 위한 여러 가지 방법이 동원되지만, 해적과 내통하고 있는 주영령이란 자에 의해 각종 정보가 유출되어 해적들의 횡포는 더욱더 심해져만 간다. 이에 홍콩 정부에서는 해경에 군함을 지원하여, 해경이 총출동하는 프로젝트 A라는 해적 토벌작전을 감행하기로 예정하였으나, 역시 내통자의 정보유출로 인해, 출정은 무산되고 이로 인해 해경은 해체되고 육상경찰에 편입되고 만다. 해경 소속이었던 마여룡(성룡)은 해적과의 내통자가 있음을 눈감아주는 육상 경찰의 태도에 염증을 느끼고, 스스로 경찰직을 포기하여 전문도둑인 탁일비(홍금보)와 함께 지대장의 무기밀매현장을 덮쳐 무기를 숨겨두지만 이로 인해 주영령과 지대장으로부터 추적을 당하게 된다. 홍콩정부의 고위장군이 주영령과 비밀거래를 하는 광경을 목격한 마여룡은 분에 못 이겨 장군과 담판을 거친 끝에 결국 해체된 해경들을 규합하여, 해적소탕을 위한 신프로젝트 A 작전을 감행하게 되는데, 주영령으로 변장하여 해적의 소굴로 들어간 마여룡은 탁일비와 해경 동료들의 도움을 얻어 해적들을 소탕하게 되는데...

뛰어난 무술과 정의심에 가득찬 해경 소속의 마여룡(성룡 분)은 'PROJECT A'의 성공적인 임무완수로 해적들을 모두 소탕하였으나, 해적 무리들의 일부 생존자들이 해적 두목의 복수를 위해 홍콩에 잠입하게 된다. 해적들이 소탕되자 이제 홍콩에서는 내륙 치안의 문제가 발생하여 각 지역에 암흑가 조직들이 활개를 치고 경찰들의 비리가 만연하게 되어, 정부에서는 내륙치안의 안정을 위해 해경 소속 마여룡을 최대의 치안부재 지역인 '서구'의 경찰서장으로 내정한다. 서구 경찰서의 비리를 몸소 체험한 마여룡은 단 4명의 부하만을 이끌고 암흑가 최대의 조직인 구심호 일파를 체포하기 위해 '보록객잔'으로 뛰어들게 되나, 중과부적이라 수세에 몰린 마여룡은 전임대장인 해경의 지대장의 원조에 힘입어 구심호 일당을 소탕하게 된다. 마여룡의 행적에 불만을 품고 그를 없애기 위한 음모를 꾸미는 진삼환은 청국의 반기를 들고 사업을 하는 혁명군들을 속여 총독 딸의 생일 파티때 다이아 목걸이를 훔친 후 마여룡에게 누명을 씌운다. 마여룡은 자신의 누명을 풀기 위해 추적하는 과정에서 혁명군과 청국사신들과의 관계, 그리고 진삼환이 금전에 눈이 어두워 혁명군의 비밀장부를 청국에 넘기려하는 사실들을 알게 되고, 결국, 죽음을 무릅쓰고 혁명군을 도와 청국의 사신들과 매국노 진삼환을 체포하기 위한 사투를 벌인다.
