밤낮없이 여자 마네킨 조작에만 몰두하던 조나단(Jonathan Switcher: 앤드류 맥카시 분)은, 그것을 이유로 애인 록씨(Roxie: 캐롤 데이비스 분)에게 버림받고 가는 곳마다 해고를 당해 실직자 신세를 면치 못한다. 조나단은 우연히 프린스 백화점의 사장의 생명을 구해준 것이 인연이 되어 백화점의 출고 계원으로 취직이 된다. 어느날 조나단은 온정열을 쏟아 만든 마네킨이 옛날 이집트의 요술장이 에미(Emmy: 킴 캐트랄 분)로 변하는 기적이 일어난다. 죠나단이 있을때만, 아름다운 여인으로 변하는 에미는 그를 도와 기발한 쇼위도우 디스플레이를 창출하여 도산 위기의 프린스 백화점을 재기시킨다. 숙적이던 일러스트 백화점의 부장 비 제이(B.J. Wert: 스티브 비노비치 분)를 비롯, 프린스내에서도 일러스트와 내통하며, 부사장까지 된 조나단의 출세와 사랑을 온갖 수단으로 방해하려 한다. 결국 에미는 20세기의 인간으로 변신하게 되어 에미는 죠나단과 행복한 결혼식을 올린다.

아빠 없이 자란 수잔은 산타클로스 할아버지의 존재에 대해 의문을 갖고 있었으나 이런 생각은 엄마가 일하는 백화점에서 산타로 일하는 크리의 등장으로 완전히 바뀌게 된다. 수잔에게 산타의 존재를 믿게 하려는 크리의 노력으로 수잔은 물론이고 그 주변의 사람들도 마침내 사랑과 밑음, 그리고 가족의 소중함에 대해 새로이 눈을 뜨기 시작한다.

수다스러운 허풍쟁이 짐(프랭크 웨일리 분)은 무려 30여 차례에 걸쳐 실직 당하는 괴로움을 맛본다. 그러나 막상 본인은 별로 괴로움을 느끼는 것 같지는 않다. 집에서 놀고 먹는 것이 훨씬 편하기만 하다. 급기야 참을 수 없게 된 가족들은 짐에게 무조건 아무 직장에나 취직할 것을 강요하고 할 수 없이 백화점의 야간 청소부로 취직하게 된다. 영업이 끝난 후 밖에서 문을 잠궈 아침까지는 나갈 수도 들어올 수도 없어 갇힌 상태에서 근무하는 첫 밤을 맞이한 짐은 일은 하기 싫고 심심하기만 하다. 롤러 스케이트를 타다가 백화점 주인의 딸이며 짐과는 유치원 때부터 함께 자라온 조시(제니퍼 코넬리 분)가 매장에 숨어있는 것을 발견한다. 그녀는 아버지에게 불만을 품고 아버지를 곤란하게 하기 위해서 아버지의 상점에서 물건을 훔쳐서 체포될 계획을 갖고 숨어 있었던 것이다. 둘 만이 있는 빈 백화점에서 짐과 조시는 그동안 서로에 대해 모르던 부분을 조금씩 알게된다. 마침 짐과 조시가 한참 가출할 계획을 세우고 있을 때 2인조 강도가 침입한다.

산타에 대한 일반인들의 좋은 느낌을 이용해 허를 찌른 범죄행각을 다룬 영화. 산타 클로스와 요정처럼 분장하고 전국의 대형 쇼핑몰을 돌며 물건을 훔치는 2인조 도둑의 이야기다. 순조롭게 진행되어가던 그들의 계획은 어느 날 한 순수한 어린 아이를 만나게 되면서 위기를 맞이한다.
