Hard Road (1988)

가이 홀든은 뮤지컬 연출자이며 댄서이고 진저 로저스의 캐릭터 미미는 짜증나는 영국인 지질학자와 애정없는 결혼생활에 얽혀있는 미국인 유부녀이다. 가이는 친구인 변호사 에그버트와 런던을 방문했다가 항구에서 만난 미미에게 반하게 된다. 나중에 미미는 에그버트를 변호사로 고용하고 그는 미미에게 불륜의 현장을 연출하라고 제안한다. 미미는 그 연극을 위해 브라이튼으로 가는데, 에그버트와 함께 그곳에 도착한 가이를 그 연극의 상대자라고 믿어버린다. 나중엔 에그버트가 고용한 진짜 전문가인 이탈리아인 로돌포 토네티가 이들 사이에 끼어들게 되는데...

그레이엄 그린의 소설을 원작으로 한 영화. 살인을 저지른 갱스터가 자신의 살인을 목격한 여자의 입을 막기 위해 그녀와 결혼하게 된다. 1947년에 같은 소설을 원작으로 영화화 된 바 있다.

1947년 영국의 한 휴양도시 브라이튼을 배경으로 실제 갱단 두목의 이야 기를 그린 (브라이튼 룩)은 차가운 시선을 가진 갱스터영화의 고전이다. 특히 롤러코스터에서의 끔찍한 살인을 아무런 주관적인 감정을 넣지 않고그려내, 묘한 서스펜스를 느끼게 해준다. 그렇지만 더욱 놀라운 것은 이 두목이 어른이 아닌 어린 나이의 청소년이라는 점이다. 우리에게 (간디)로 익숙한 리처드 아텐보로는 양심이라고는 찾아 볼 수 없는 냉혈한 캐릭터의 어린 갱두목 핑키 역을 훌륭하게 소화해내 주목을 끌었다.데일리 메신서의 대표 키버는 카드를 숨겨두고 이것을 찾는 자에게 상금 을 주겠다고 말한다. 어린 갱 두목 핑키는 놀이 동산에서 카드를 가지고 있던 프레드를 무자비하게 살해한다. 그리고 이 카드를 스파이서에게 숨겨두라고 명령한다.

젊은 변호사 알랜 맥킴(Alan McKim: 존 그레그슨 분)은 골동품 수집가이다. 특히 그는 1904년 드라크사가 제작한 '제네비에브'를 가장 아낀다. 하지만 알랜의 아내(Wendy McKim: 다이나 셔리단 분)는 자동차를 사랑하는 남편의 집념을 이해하지 못한다. 매해 런던에서는 브라이튼에 이르는 자동차 경주가 벌어진다. 알랜은 이 자동차 경주에 참가할 준비를 하고 그의 오래된 친구 암브로소 클래버하우스(Ambrose Claverhouse: 케네스 모어 분)도 1904년형 골동품차를 몰고 온다. 클래버하우스는 알랜의 '제네비에브'에 대한 악성 루머를 퍼뜨리는가 하면 알랜과 부인 사이를 이간질한다. 전국 각지에서 수많은 선수들이 참가한 가운데 드디어 자동차 경주가 시작되고 클래버하우스는 여자 친구 로잘린드 피터스(Rosalind Peters: 케이 켄달 분)와 함께 시합에 참가한다. 그러나 알랜의 가는 길마다 재앙이 따르고 결국엔 브라이튼에 제 시간에 도착하지 못해 시합에서 떨어지고 만다. 그날 밤 암브로소와 알랜은 나이트클럽에서 우연히 만나게 되는데, 암브로소는 알랜의 부인과 춤을 추면서 야릇한 감정을 느낀다. 호텔로 돌아온 알랜은 암브로소에게 호의를 보인 부인을 의심하면서 질투심에 휩싸인다. 차고에서 만난 알랜과 알브로소는 말다툼을 하게 되고 화가 난 암브로소는 알랜에게 제네비에브에 대한 악담을 늘어놓는다. 화가 난 알랜은 암브로소에게 런던으로 되돌아가는 경주를 하자고 제안한다. 런던의 웨스트미니스터 다리에 먼저 도착하는 사람이 100파운드를 차지한다는 내기였다. 알랜과 암브로소는 내기에서 이기기 위해 온갖 수단을 다 동원한다. 아슬아슬한 경주가 계속되고 결국엔 알랜이 이끄는 제네비에브가 승리한다. 알랜은 아내에 대한 의심이 부질없는 것이었다는 것을 깨닫고 두 사람은 서로에 대한 사랑을 확인한다.

A 1930s British summer Bank Holiday starts at midday on Saturday with a rush for the trains to the seaside. Doreen and Milly are off to a beauty contest, Geoffrey and Catherine are having an illicit weekend in the Grand Hotel and May and the kids are set for a more straightforward holiday of sea, sand, and pub. Meanwhile, the manager and performers on the pier are praying for rain.

We Are Scissor Sisters... And So Are You is the first DVD by the Scissor Sisters, released on November 29, 2004. It contains a full live concert filmed at Brighton Dome in August 2004, featuring backstage footage and extras. It includes the documentary "Return To Oz" (directed by Julien Temple) which tells the story of the Scissor Sisters. There is also a separate 10 minute skit directed by Andy Soup which has the band dressed up as characters from The Wizard of Oz, which also includes "terribly bad acting" as mentioned on their official website.
