쥬디 갈란드의 멜로 뮤지컬, 어떤 영화에 출연하더라도 자기의 색깔을 잃지 않는 비련의 주인공 쥬디 갈란드가 그로부터 약 30년 후 자신의 아이를 찾 아 영국으로 건너온 엄마 역할을 맡고 있다. 쥬디 갈란드가 연기하는 제니 버먼은 성공한 여가수로 세계 순회공연 중 영국 런던에 들르게 된다. 그러나 그곳에는 자신의 옛 연인인 데이비드가 살고 있다. 더욱이 데이비드는 제니가 가수로서의 성공을 위해 포기해야만 했던 자신들의 아이를 키우며 살아가고 있다. 이제 제니의 소망은 십대로 자라난 아이를 한번 만나보는 것뿐이다. 그러나 아이를 만나자 제니의 욕심은 커지고 아이를 다시 되찾으려 하나 끝내는 아이도 찾지 못하고 자신의 노래 인생에 대한 회의만 커져 간다. 이때 다시 손을 내미는데 이 빛. 둘 사이에는 어느덧 새로운 사랑의 희망이 보이기 시작한다. 이혼 후 실제로 법정투쟁을 통해 아이를 찾아야만 했던 쥬디 갈란드의 인생에서 힌트를 얻기라도 한듯한 이 영화는 가수로서 엄마로서 그러나 무엇보다도 여자로서 자신의 것을 찾기 위해 평생을 싸워온 여자의 분노, 실망, 우울 그리고 넘치는 에너지가 느껴지는 영화이다. 노래를 위해 살아왔지만 이제는 노래마저 시들해지고 다시 찾으려는 아들에게서도 버림받은 여자의 한탄과 비애가 무대를 통해 때로는 과장되고 때로는 센티멘털하게 표현된다. 영화에서 쥬디 갈란드가 직접 부르는 노래들은 이런 정서를 전달하는 도구로서, 쥬디 갈란드만이 표현할 수 있는 고전 할리우드 시대의 로맨스, 화려함, 과장됨, 흘러넘치는 감정들로 가득하다.

Singer Stan Walker makes his acting debut playing the lead role in feature film Mt Zion, shot in Pukekohe, Auckland. Walker stars as Turei, a talented young musician with a dream – for his band to win the audition to be the support act for Bob Marley’s 1979 concert in Auckland. Set amongst a Maori family of contract potato pickers in Pukekohe, in which Turei’s desperate ambition clashes with traditional whanau values, leading to an emotional showdown and powerful change. Temuera Morrison (Once Were Warriors), plays Turei’s father, the hard-working head contractor who has some lost ambitions of his own. Mt Zion is written and directed by Tearepa Kahi, who made the international award-winning short film Taua. Stan Walker won the 2009 Australian Idol singing contest and is now signed to Sony Music as a recording artist and EMI publishing as song writer.

The stuffy manager of lovely opera singer Vicki Cassel and her uncle, a classical conductor, is determined to close down the noisy nightclub next door to the Cassels' home. The club's owners--Steve, a handsome ladies' man, and Jeff, his clownish sidekick--hatch a plan to keep the club open. Steve arranges to meet--and woo--Vicki and then invite her and her uncle to the club. When Vicki's snobbish aunt and the manager discover that Vicki now favors popular music over the classics, they arrange to get the club closed. But that doesn't keep Steve and Jeff down. Instead, they decide to put on a Broadway show if they can get a backer. They find their "angel" in Vicki's uncle who agrees to finance the show only if Vicki is the leading lady. But again, Vicki's aunt and manager may be the spoiler in everyone's plans.
