Brief History (1956)

The famous illusionists, the Romanov brothers, present to the public their grandiose show, after which they are going to end their joint performances because of the accumulated mutual claims. In the first issue, with the disappearance of the assistant from the aquarium filled with water, something goes wrong - it does not appear in the right place. Immediately in the stage headphones of the brothers, the voice of an unknown person says that the girl is with him. He also changed the way complex mechanisms work for tricks. And now they pose a threat to the lives of the brothers. But if the show does not continue, the “voice” will kill the assistant ... The beloved girl of one of the brothers.

트램 운전사 로리(카리 바나넌)와 레스토랑의 매니저인 일로나(카티 오우티넨)는 가구를 새로 사는 등 달콤한 미래를 계획하나 로리가 실직을 당한 후 일로나마저 일하던 레스토랑이 대기업의 체인으로 넘어가자 일할 곳을 잃게 된다. 적당한 직장을 구하지 못한 일로나는 결국 이전 동료들과 함께 자신의 레스토랑을 열고 고객들을 기다리지만 점심시간이 다 가도록 테이블은 비어있다. 감독의 오랜 친구이자 동료로 1995년에 세상을 뜬 마티 펠론파에게 헌정한 작품이다.

파티와 알콜, 섹스와 마약은 스페인의 현대 젊은이들을 가로지르는 날 것의 모습. 퇴폐적이고 불안함에 흔들리면서도 그들을 근근히 지탱하는 젊음은 단지 스페인의 현재를 적나라한 초상으로 보여주는 것을 넘어 전 세계에 던지는 진지한 물음이 된다. 알퐁소 알바사테와 데이비드 멘케스 감독이 공동으로 연출한 이 작품은 2008년 스페인 박스 오피스 2위를 차지했다.

1810년대 영국 하이베리의 작은 마을. 23살의 예쁘고 영리한 아가씨 엠마 우드하우스(기네스 펠트로우 분)는 '세상에서 가장 멋진 일은 아주 잘 어울리는 커플을 만들어내는 것'이라는 확고한 믿음을 가지고 있었다. 가정교사 테일러양을 이웃의 웨스턴씨와 중매하고 그들이 결혼에 골인하자 기세등등해진 엠마. 그녀는 다음 목표로 사회적으로 약간 미성숙한 아가씨 해리엇을 지목한다. 해리엇과 어울리는 파트너를 찾기위해 동부서주하는 엠마. 그런데 농부 로버트 마틴이 해리엇의 뒤를 졸졸 따라 다니는 것이다. 설상가상으로 해리엇까지 마틴에게 관심이 있는 눈치. 엠마는 마틴과 사귀지 말라는 따끔한 충고를 잊지않는다. 해리엇을 위한 '적당한' 남편감을 찾던 중 엠마의 눈에 젊은 교구목사인 엘튼씨가 들어온다. 해리엇과 엘튼이라는 새로운 커플의 탄생은 노련한 중매쟁이 엠마에게 있어서 이제 시간문제 일뿐이다. 하지만 엠마의 친절을 오해한 엘튼씨는 엠마에게 청혼하고, 엠마는 생각지도 못한 상황으로 인해 난처한 상황에 처하게 된다. 엠마의 곁에서 늘 그녀를 지켜보던 나이트리씨(제레미 노덤 분)는 엠마의 행동이 다른 사람의 마음을 아프게 할 수 있다고 충고한다. 실의에 빠진 엠마. 한편 마을의 수다쟁이들이 모여 정작 본인은 결혼할 생각을 하지 않는 엠마에 대한 궁금증과 호기심을 토로하고 있었다. 엠마는 자신에게도 사랑할 사람이 필요하다고 느끼게 된다. 그런 엠마앞에 프랭크 처칠(이완 맥그리거 분)이라는 멋진 청년이 나타나지만 그는 세상이 다아는 바람둥이였다.

In World War I London, Myra is an American out-of-work chorus girl making ends meet by picking up men on Waterloo Bridge. During a Zeppelin air raid she meets Roy, a naive young American who enlisted in the Canadian army. After they fall for each other, Roy tricks Myra into visiting his family, who live in a country estate outside London, his mother having remarried to a retired British Major. Myra is reluctant to continue the relationship with Roy, he not aware of her past.

미세한 세계도 인간의 드라마만큼이나 감동적이다. 상공에서 초원까지 급강하하는 카메라에는 이름 모를 수많은 벌레들의 희로애락과 생존경쟁이 펼쳐진다. 나방 애벌레들이 일렬로 나란히 줄 지어 꿈틀대며 행진하고, 촉촉한 이끼 위에서 슬그머니 다가선 두 달팽이가 사랑을 나누고, 쏟아지는 비 한방울 한방울이 이들에겐 폭포수의 크기로 다가온다. 이들에게 두려움의 대상은 예상 외로 너무나 작고 하찮은 것들이다. 커다란 이슬방울은 곤충들의 앞길을 가로막고 빗방울의 추락은 거대한 폭탄세례와도 같다.

아이오와 출신의 시골 촌뜨기 죠(Joe: 제리 오코넬 분)는 청운의 꿈을 품고 뉴욕으로 온다. 그러나 터미날에 내리자마자 연달아 강도를 당하고, 철거직전의 폐허같은 아파트를 간신히 얻는다. 희망을 안고 아파트에 들어선 죠. 그러나 그를 맞은 건 샐 수 조차 없는 수만마리의 바퀴벌레들이었는데. 그러나 이 바퀴벌레들은 말도 하고 자신들만의 세계도 있는 바퀴벌레들. 바퀴벌레 전용 TV인 RTV에 성인채널까지. 서로 모여 브레이크 댄스를 추기도 하고, 의사결정을 위해 의회도 열고, 죠를 위로하기 위해 뮤지컬까지 만드는 보통내기가 아닌 바퀴벌레들이다. 바퀴 벌레들과 친해진 죠는 어렵게 일자리를 구하지만 온몸에서 불쑥 튀어나오는 바퀴벌레들 때문에 항상 해고당하기만 한다. 그러던 어느날, 죠가 살고 있는 아파트 자리에 최첨단 교도소를 건립할 계획을 가진 주지사(Senator Dougherty: 로버트 본 분)에 의해 아파트 주민들이 고난을 당한다. 아파트 주민들이 모두 이주한 이후 아파트를 손쉽게 허물기 위한 것. 윗층에서 투신자살하는 여자를 신고하기 위해 911에 전화를 건 죠는 주지사의 딸이자 911 교환원인 릴리(Lily Dougherty: 메간 워드 분)에게 사랑을 느끼게 된다. 죠의 사랑을 맺어주기 위한 바퀴벌레들의 노력에도 불구하고 결정적인 순간에 릴리의 얼굴 위로 쏟아져 내린 수천마리의 바퀴벌레 때문에 죠는 버림받게 되고, 주지사의 음모로 아파트엔 불이나 건물은 모두 타버리게 된다.

2차 대전 직후 이탈리아의 수도 로마의 거리. 오랫동안 일자리를 구하지 못하고 거리를 배회하던 안토니오는 우연히 직업 소개소를 통해 거리에서 벽보를 붙이는 일을 맡는다. 그러나 그 일을 하기 위해선 자전거가 필요했고 이 사실을 안 아내 마리아는 남편의 직업을 위해 자신이 소중하게 간직했던 침대 시트를 전당포에 맡기고 자전거를 구입한다. 한편 직업을 갖게 된 안토니오와 그의 아들 브르노는 기쁨을 참지 못하지만 아뿔싸! 이게 웬일? 이튿날 안토니오가 출근하여 벽보를 붙이는 사이 한 사내가 자전거를 타고 도망치는 것이 아닌가?

Katja Flint, Hannelore Elsner and Heiner Lauterbach star in this German film about a woman who climbs the social ladder by sleeping with those she encounters on her way to the top. When she's discovered dead in her apartment in 1957, the police try to piece together the clues to find out who murdered her … but to no avail.

The Angry Street includes a great deal of location shooting in the rebuilt city, including downtown streets, residential neighborhoods, the campus of the University of Tokyo, and the high life of jazzy dance halls. Sudo (Hara Yasumi) and Mori (Uno Jukichi) are two university students who make money by picking up rich girls in dance clubs and conning them into giving them cash. Mori is the brains of the operation, and Sudo is the suave dancer who picks up the girls. Over the course of the film, Sudo becomes involved with three different girls and is drawn into the gangster milieu, which he seems unable to resist even though he is responsible for his mother, grandmother, and sister, Masako (Wakayama Setsuko). In this world of bad boys and girls, Masako is the pillar of strength and moral virtue who finally enables Mori to straighten out.

This Italian film takes a chilling, nonexploitative look into the mind of a nice young man who compulsively rapes beautiful women. The rapes are graphically presented and may be disturbing to some viewers. Outwardly Luca seems to be a normal, quiet 20-year old. His mother is frequently gone. Trouble begins when Luca becomes obsessed with Valeria, the beauty who works in the next building. He begins spying on her, and then secretly filming her with his camcorder. He tries to get to know her, but she ignores him. Unable to stand her constant refusal, the frustrated young man accosts her on dark street and rapes her. The first rape was almost accidental; he encountered her on the street and he hurt her. Unfortunately, he liked the violence and begins raping every attractive woman he sees. He is particularly violent with Lorena, a jewelry saleswoman whom he beats up in a park before violating her.
