Story of blood brothers whose bonds are tested when marauding Sioux Indians cross the border to enlist the peaceful Cree in a battle against the Great White Father.

The construction of the Great Western Railroad creates heavy conflict between the railway company and neighboring Indian tribes. Old Shatterhand, who works as a measurement technician, discovers the evil plan and searches contact with the Apaches in an effort to avert war.

무자비한 갱단인 던컨 일당은 한 평화로운 나바호족 인디언 마을을 습격해 사람들을 죽이고 한 여자의 머리 가죽을 벗겨 간다. 처참하게 죽은 아내를 발견한 남편 조는 던컨에게 복수하기 위해 일당을 쫓아간다. 한편 에스페란자 마을에 도착한 던컨은 마을의사 린과 공모해 거액을 운반하는 기차를 털기로 한다. 하지만 조가 선수를 쳐서 기차를 먼저 훔친 귀 마을로 가서 던컨 일당으로부터 마을을 지켜주는 대신 돈을 요구하지만 마을 사람들은 인디언과의 거래를 꺼리며 조의 제안을 거절한다. 오랜 노력 끝에 의사의 부인이 주민들을 설득하고 조에게 던컨 일당 퇴치를 부탁한다. 함정에 빠진 조는 던컨 일당에게 생포돼 고문을 당하지만 다행히 구출되고 던컨과의 최후의 결판을 짓게 된다. 숨 막히는 결투 끝에 조는 던컨이 훔쳐간 아내의 목걸이를 되찾고 던컨에게 피의 복수를 한다.

페이서(Pacer Burton: 엘비스 프레슬리 분)의 생일축하 잔치가 끝난 후, 귀가하던 마을 사람들이 잠복해 있던 인디언들에 의해 무참히 살해된다. 어느날 형과 함께 물건을 사기위해 마을에 들른 페이서는 마을 사람들로부터 인디언의 피가 섞였다는 이유로 비난을 받는다. 그날 오후, 인디언 추장 ‘버팔로 흔’(Buffalo Horn: 루돌프 아코스타 분)이 찾아와 페이서에게 자신들과 합류하여 백인들과 싸울 것을 강요한다. 그러나 그는 완강히 거부한다. 며칠 후, 지나가던 백인들을 친절히 대해주던 어머니가 농락당하자 그들을 쫓아내며 페이서는 백인들에게 환멸을 느끼기 시작한다. 이 사건 이후 이전까지 조금도 흔들림이 없던 페이서는 어머니와 함께 버팔로 흔을 따라 인디언 부락으로 향한다. 그들을 이해하게 되고 그들에게서 동족애마저 느끼게 되지만 어머니와 함께 다시 집으로 돌아오는 페이서. 그러나 인디언에게 부상당한 채 복수의 기회를 노리던 백인의 총에 어어니가 피살되고 마을의 의사에게 왕진을 요청하지만 거부당하자 페이서의 분노가 시작된다. 결국 어머니를 묻으며 백인에 대한 복수를 결심하게 되는 페이서는 형과 아버지에게 작별을 고하고 인디언 부락으로 향하는데...
