Nocturnal life in the partly deserted dock area of Amsterdam. Director Marjoleine Boonstra encounters lone wolves, leading secluded lives in makeshift shelters, and people that work as pilots, night watchmen or skippers. According to a young pilot `it was actually like a dream', working by the IJ river at night. And this is what it looks like: a dream world. Between interviews, Boonstra makes her camera glide through the area, along the quay, across the water, along cranes, containers and sea-going vessels. A world of lamps, reflections and shadows. In this landscape of stone and metal, an extraordinary group of individuals lives and works. For example, an English woman cleans up a submarine for a party, a refugee from former Yugoslavia has created a place for himself and a night watchman has to `see to it that that boat stays where it is'. Peaceful music emphasises the relative quiet, in which the interviewees reflect on their lives and the harbour.
산소통을 캐리어처럼 끌고 호흡기를 생명줄처럼 차고 있는 헤이즐. 집에 틀어박혀 리얼리티 쇼나 보며 하루를 축내는 자신을 걱정하는 가족에게 등 떠밀려 어쩔 수 없이 참석한 암 환자 모임에서 꽃미소가 매력적인 어거스터스를 만난다. 담배를 입에 물었지만 불은 붙이지 않는 ‘상징적인 행동’으로 헤이즐의 맹비난을 재치있게 받아넘긴 어거스터스는 시크하고 우울증마저 겪는 헤이즐을 두근거리게 만든다. 두 사람은 소설책을 나눠 읽으며 급속도로 가까워지고, 어거스터스는 헤이즐이 그토록 좋아하는 네덜란드의 작가를 만나게 해주기 위해 ‘지니의 소원’을 빌어 암스테르담 여행을 제안한다. 가족과 주변의 걱정과 만류에도 불구하고 생애 처음으로 여행길에 오른 두 사람. 자신을 시한폭탄이라 생각하고 사랑하는 것들 과 선을 그었던 그녀와, 거절당할까 두려워 진실을 감춰왔던 어거스터스는 서로에게 속마음을 털어놓기 시작하는데... 예측불허 이들의 사랑은 어떻게 될까?
유럽으로 배낭여행을 떠난 미국인 배낭족 팩스턴과 조쉬는 여행도중 만난 올리와 함께 암스테르담에 머물던 중 알렉스라는 남자를 만난다. 그는 슬로바키아에 가면 ‘미녀와 멋진 하룻밤’을 보낼 수 있다며 어느 호스텔을 알려준다. 이들은 슬로바키아의 브라티슬라바로 향하고 그곳에서 기대 만큼이나 멋진 꿈 같은 밤을 보낸다. 하지만 그 다음날 갑자기 올리가 사라지고, 같은 호스텔에 묵고 있던 일본인 배낭여행족 유키도 행방불명이 된 것을 알게 된다. 이후 조쉬 마저 연락이 두절되자 무언가 이상한 느낌을 갖게 된 팩스턴은 친구들을 찾아 나섰다가 끔찍한 고문실에 갇히고 마는데…

국제적 플레이보이 안토안의 집을 봐주게 되다 자의반 타의반으로 전문 플레이보이 세계에 발을 들여놓게 된 수족관 청소부인 듀스 비갈로. 아직도 직업 접대부로서 풋내기인 듀스 비갈로는 아내를 잃고 방황하던 중 그의 전 포주이자 친구인 티제이의 연락을 받고 네덜란드로 향한다. 그러나 그 곳에서 최고의 지골로로 손꼽히는 자가 살해당하는 사건이 일어나고 그 와중에 친구인 티제이가 지골로 살인범의 누명을 쓰고 경찰에 쫓기게 된다. 이에 듀스는 친구의 누명을 벗겨 주기 위해 직접 살인범을 찾아 나서게 된다. 지골로 세계로 다시 뛰어든 듀스 비갈로. 그는 살인 사건을 추적하던 중 자신이 몰랐던 사실을 알게 된다. 바로 은밀한 지골로들만의 사교집단이 있다는 것. 살인 사건을 해결하기 위해 그곳에 들어가지만 그 사회에서 자신의 위치는 매우 낮아 무시와 비웃음만 산다. 듀스 비갈로는 이에 아랑곳 하지 않고 범인을 잡기 위해 살해 당한 지골로의 고객들을 만나며 단서를 찾아 다닌다. 듀스 비갈로는 친구 티제이의 누명을 벗길 살인범을 찾아 사건을 해결할 수 있을 것인가?

실화를 바탕으로 한 이 영화에서는 2차 대전 중, 숨어 있는 유대인들을 갈취하고 수백 명을 죽음의 수용소로 팔아넘긴 네덜란드의 전범, 안드레스 리파겐의 일생을 다룬다.
1934년 여름 히틀러가 집권하자 안네 가족은 프랑크프루트를 뗘나 네덜란드 암스테르담에 정착하게 된다. 불안한 생활 가운데에서도 한동안 평화로운 생활이 계속되는 안네의 가족. 그러나 1941년 네덜란드를 침공하고 암스테르담에서의 유태인 검거와 처형에 혈안이 된 나찌들의 횡포가 더욱 심해지자 안네의 가족은 불안한 하루하루를 보내게 된다. 그로부터 1년 후 안네의 언니 마르코프가 출두 명령을 받게 되고 다음 달, 안네의 가족을 비롯하여 반단씨 가족과 그의 아들이자 안네의 연인 피터, 의사인 뒤셀씨 등은 미리 준비해 두었던 은신처로 옮겨 은둔 생활에 들어간다. 그러나 2년이 넘는 은둔생활 중 게슈타포에 의해 발각되고 이들은 폴란드의 유태인 수용소를 전전하다가 그 다음해 안네의 아버지를 제외한 모든 사람들이 죽음을 당하게 된다. 세월이 흘러 독일이 패망한 후 안네의 아버지는 자신의 가족들이 독일군의 눈을 피해 숨어 지냈던 다락방에서 안네의 일기장을 발견하게 되는데.
Ruben, Durex and Nora are three students in their last year of college. Ruben has already failed his exams once due to his lack of self-confidence.
