허버트 웨스트 박사는 저 유명한 '미스케토닉 대학 사건'으로 인해 교도a소에 14년째 복역중이다. 미스케토닉 사건이란 죽은 장기를 살려내려는 실험을 하다가 만들어낸 기괴한 괴물들로 인해 벌어진 참사. 하지만 박사로서는 과학 실험을 하다 보면 생길 수도 있는 부수적인 결과일 뿐, 반성의 여지는 찾아볼 수 없다. 사회의 나머지 인간들이야말로 멍청하고 위선적인 바보들일 뿐이라는 허버트 웨스트 박사. 웨스트 박사의 '리에이전트' 세럼은, 죽은 자의 뇌 속에 주입할 경우 장기를 살아나게는 하지만 결코 진짜 살아난 것이라고 보기 힘든 엉망진창인 상태로 만들어버리는 성질의 약물이다. 죽은 자들에게 '진짜 생명'을 주기 위해, 박사는 이제 몇 가지 질서와 방향을 부여해야 한다. 그는 이 생명 에너지를 찾아헤매던 중 스스로 NPE 즉, 나노플라스믹 에너지라고 부르는 것을 발견하게 된다. 폭력적이고 잔인한 교도소장 카브레라와 무식하고 성가신 간수, 그리고 죄수들과 '신선한' 시체라고는 덫으로 잡을 수 밖에 없는 쥐나 바퀴벌레가 전부인 교도소. 박사와 같은 과학자에게 썩 이상적인 환경은 아니지만 그는 연구의 완성을 위해 최선을 다하는 중이다. 그러던 어느 날 교도소에 새로운 젊은 의사가 자원해서 부임하는데, 그의 순진해보이는 얼굴 이면에는 다른 동기가 있다. 바로 웨스트 박사를 만나 그의 연구에 대해 알아내려는 것. 그는 어린 시절 미스케토닉 참사의 희생자 중 하나였던 누나의 죽음을 직접 목격했고, 그녀의 죽음을 막지 못했던 괴로움이 이후 그의 인생을 사로잡았다. 게다가 어린 시절 발견했던 웨스트 박사의 '리에이전트' 세럼을 간직하고 있었는데....

유난히 겁 많고 언제 어디서나 두려움과 불안 속에서 살아가고 있는 청년이 있다. 외출도 자제하고 게임을 즐기며 자신만의 세상에서 살고 있던 그는 좀비로부터 자신을 보호하는 여러 규칙을 만들고 준수해온 덕분에 생존할 수 있었다고 말한다. 부모님이 살고 있는 동부 콜럼버스로 향하는 그는 무기로 무장하고 좀비라면 무작정 쏴 죽이는 한 남자를 만나고 서로 동부 쪽으로 향해 가고 있음을 알게 된 두 사람은 동행하게 된다. 청년은 이름을 말하려고 그는 서로 이름을 부르면 너무 친해진다며 자신들이 향하는 곳을 이름 삼아 부르기로 한다. 콜럼버스로 향하는 대학생과 탈라하시로 향하는 터프가이. 그렇게 소년은 콜럼버스가, 남자는 탈라하시가 된다. 트윙키라는 과자에 집착하는 탈라하시는 콜럼버스와 마트에 들렀다가 도움이 필요해 보이는 소녀를 만나게 된다. 소녀는 자신의 여동생이 좀비에게 물렸고 동생의 부탁으로 좀비가 되기 전에 죽이려고 한다며 총을 빌려달라고 한다. 그러나 자매는 갑자기 태도가 돌변해 무기와 차를 빼앗아 달아난다. 억세게 운 좋은 둘은 다시 새로운 차와 무기를 마련해 목적지로 향하는데 다시 그 자매를 만난다. 우연히 한 차를 타고 가면서 적대관계에서 살아남으려는 동료애 같은 분위기로 변하는데....

커다란 달이 유난히 낮게 뜬 어느 날, 죽은 자들이 깨어난다. 커피, 와인, 와이파이를 찾아 동네를 누비며 사람들을 공격하기 시작하는 좀비들. 이제 마을의 평화는 경찰 클리프와 로니, 민디 그리고 장의사 젤다에게 달려있다.

1984년 7월 3일, 유니다(Uneeda) 의료용품 공급업체에 갓 취업한 프레디는 이곳에서 오랫동안 일해온 프랭크에게 여러가지 시체들에 얽힌 믿을 수 없는 괴상한 이야기를 듣는다. 15여 년 전인 1969년 피츠버그 재향군인 병원에서 화학 물질이 땅 속에 흘러들어 시체들이 깨어일어난다. 그 화학 물질은 데럴 화학이 미군을 위해 개발 중이었던 약품인데 오염된 시체들을 파내고 극비에 붙여 사건을 수습했다고 한다. 그런데 수송국의 착오로 시체들을 데럴사가 아닌 유니다로 가져왔다는 이야기였다. 그러면서 믿기지 않는 표정의 프레드를 지하실로 데려가 직접 살아있는 시체를 보여준다

‘패트릭’과 딸 ‘트레이시’, 트레이시의 친구 ‘레이첼’은 도로변 묘지에서 양 다리가 잘린 남자가 살아 움직이는 것을 목격한다. ‘레이첼’은 기괴한 모습을 한 채 자신을 따라오는 남자를 피해 도망치지만, 곧 묘지에서 더 많은 좀비떼가 출현한다. 한편 집에서 패트릭과 트레이시를 기다리던 ‘버디’, 이들의 옆집에 사는 ‘조셉’과 아들 ‘페리’도 좀비떼가 나타났음을 알고 대비를 시작한다. 무덤에서는 묻혀 있던 시체들이 되살아나 빠져 나오고, 시체보관실에서는 누워있던 시체들이 일어난다. 점점 늘어만 가는 좀비들이 산 사람들을 무차별 공격하는 끔찍한 밤. 두 가족은 아침이 될 때까지 좀비들의 습격을 피해 살아남아야만 하는데...

1987년에 ‘마이클 고닉’ 감독이 만든 옴니버스 호러 영화. 1982년에 ‘조지 로메로’ 감독이 ‘스티븐 킹’ 원작 단편을 영화로 만든 ‘크립쇼’의 후속작이다. 이번 작도 역시 스티븐 킹의 단편을 원작으로 삼았고, 조지 로메로가 각본, 톰 사비니가 특수효과를 맡았다. 내용은 한 작은 마을에서 어린 소년 ‘빌리’가 배달 트럭을 기다리다가 ‘크립쇼’ 최신호를 받아 읽어보면서 시작되는 이야기다. 전작은 5가지 단편으로 구성되어 있었는데, 본작은 3가지 단편으로 줄었다. 대신 오프닝 때 나온 꼬마 빌리 이야기가 3가지 단편이 끝날 때마다 막간극으로 들어가 독립적인 단편이 되어 사실상 4가지 단편이라고 할 수 있다. 메인 3가지 단편은 ‘올드 치프 우든 헤드(늙은 추장 우든 헤드)’, ‘래프트(뗏목)’, ‘히치하이커’다.

However, a new kid comes to town determined to force him back into racing so he can take his title--and he's already taken his girlfriend.When his younger brother, Steve, is killed racing a hot-rod, Jeff Northup blames himself for the accident since he had built the car for his brother and had encouraged him to race it, with other boys on a special course provided by police detective Ben Merrill, who is working to reduce the city's hot-rod fatalities by providing supervision for the dangerous hobby. Jeff withdraws from participating in races on Merrill's course and, without his leadership, reverts to racing on the streets. "Bronc" Talbott, a newcomer, makes a play for Jeff's girlfriend, Lisa Vernon. Eventually, the taunting-Talbott forces Jeff into a race which results in the death of a bicycling child, and evidence seems to indicate Jeff was at fault.

A couple on board a plane find themselves mixed up in a plot to steal atomic secrets.

Highlights in this one include a fist-fight between Johnny Weissmuller and Buster Crabbe (I won't give away the winner, but check the cast order); a cat-fight between Virginia Grey and Carol Thurston that the male cast of Sienfeld would pay to see and, just to keep things moving, Weissmuller wrestles an alligator, and there are two mid-water collisions between small-craft boats, a big ship wreck and a blazing swamp fire finale. Toss in a plot that has Weissmuller as a psycho-neurotic war veteran who, because he piled up his Navy destroyer on the rocks, now dreads returning to his pre-war occupation of a pilot guiding ships through the channels at the mouth of the Mississippi. Throw in icy Virginia Grey as a spoiled heiress out to take Johnny away from his job, his friends and the girl he loves (who knows why), and you have enough plot and action for two Pine-Thomas jewels.
