An A to Z of English (1995)

비엔나에서의 꿈 같은 하루 이후 9년이 지나, 파리에서 다시 마주한 제시와 셀린느. 비엔나의 특별한 추억을 소재로 쓴 베스트셀러의 유럽 홍보 투어 중인 작가 제시는 파리의 서점 구석에 서 있는 셀린느를 발견한다. 그가 뉴욕행 비행기에 오르기까지 남은 시간은 한 시간 남짓. 서로 같지만 다른 기억을 간직해 온 두 사람 사이에는 묘한 기류가 감돈다. 그들은 파리의 골목과 카페와 센강의 유람선, 셀린느의 아파트를 돌아다니며 빈곤과 환경오염, 종교, 세계의 절망과 희망, 섹스와 결혼을 이야기한다. 그렇게 그 간의 진심을 서로에게 털어놓는 사이, 해는 저물고 또 다시 헤어짐의 순간이 다가오는데...

프랑스 파리의 소르본느 대학생인 셀린느는 헝가리 부다페스트에 사는 할머니를 만나고, 가을 학기 개강에 맞춰 파리로 돌아가는 길이다. 셀린느는 옆자리의 독일인 부부가 시끄럽게 말다툼하는 소리를 피해 뒷좌석으로 자리를 옮기는데, 거기서 제시라는 미국인 청년과 우연히 얘기를 나누게 된다. 우연히 만난 그들은 짧은 시간에 서로에게 빠져든다. 그림 같은 도시와 꿈같은 대화 속에서 발견한 서로를 향한 강한 이끌림은 풋풋한 사랑으로 물들어 간다. 밤새도록 계속된 그들의 사랑 이야기 끝에 해가 떠오르기 시작하고 그들은 헤어져야만 하는데...

뉴욕의 한 도시 속, 낯선 결혼식 피로연 파티장. 오직 신랑과 신부에게만 시선이 집중 되어있는 이 곳. 핑크빛 들러리 드레스를 입은 신부 들러리에게 한 남자가 샴페인을 건네며 다가오지만 “고맙지만 전 됐어요.”라며 도도하게 사양하는 이 여자. 허나 이 남자 또한 호락호락하지는 않다. “담배는 하면서 술은 싫다?” 이렇게 자연스럽게 시작된 낯선(?) 두 남녀의 대화. 겉으로는 낯선 만남처럼 보이지만, 유머가 담긴 농도 짙은 대화 속에서 둘 사이에 그 무언가가 얽혀 있다는 걸 눈치 챌 수 있다. 과거에 미치도록 사랑했던 여자를 떠나보낸 불행한 남자. 너무 어려서 아무것도 몰랐지만 나중에서야 현실을 깨달아버린 약한 여자. 이름 없는 이 두 남녀의 대화가 끊임없이 이어지는 가운데, 그들이 사랑했던 12년 전의 열정이 서서히 드러나기 시작한다.

The film follows Will Fletcher, a musician, and Eve Fisher, who works in a pub where he is performing, during one night in London. After Will has saved Eve from a drunken customer at closing time, they stay up all night together, meandering through the streets of London and forging a relationship. Next morning, Eve takes him to see her Alzheimer's-suffering grandmother. The film is often compared to Richard Linklater's films "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset", as the style is very similar.
