Spacecraft OSIRIS-REx attempts to grab a piece of an asteroid to bring back to Earth so scientists can study it to learn about the planet's origins.

Growing up in a Quaker household, Jocelyn Bell Burnell was raised to believe that she had as much right to an education as anyone else. But as a girl in the 1940s in Northern Ireland, her enthusiasm for the sciences was met with hostility from teachers and male students. Undeterred, she went on to study radio astronomy at Glasgow University, where she was the only woman in many of her classes. In 1967, Burnell made a discovery that altered our perception of the universe. As a Ph.D. student at Cambridge University assisting the astronomer Anthony Hewish, she discovered pulsars — compact, spinning celestial objects that give off beams of radiation, like cosmic lighthouses. ‘당신이 잠든 사이에’라는 리얼TV다큐 프로그램의 리포터 안젤라와 카메라맨 파블로는 촬영을 위해 소방서에 방문한다. 소방관들의 일상을 취재하던 중 한 통의 구조요청 전화가 울리고, 대원들을 따라 사고현장으로 출동한 안젤라와 파블로는 사건현장을 하나도 빠짐 없이 찍기 위해 밀착취재를 시도한다. 그러나 현장에 도착하자마자 미친 듯이 발광하는 노파에게 공격을 당하고, 건물 안에 심상치 않은 일이 일어났음을 느낀 일행들은 급히 탈출을 시도한다. 하지만 모든 출입문은 당국의 폐쇄조치로 봉쇄된 상태. 원인도 모른 채 꼼짝 없이 건물 안에 갇히게 된다. 그 와중에 무언가에 전염된 듯 사람들이 하나 둘 기이하게 변하고, 아직 온전한 사람들은 살기 위해 필사적으로 건물 안을 벗어나려 한다. 이 모습을 놓치지 않기 위해 카메라는 계속해서 돌아가는데…. 당신의 눈도 믿지 못할 공포의 현장이 실시간으로 공개된다!

베를린 티비 타워의 레스토랑에서 종업원의 부주의로 엄청난 화재가 발생했다. 택시기사인 톰은 타워에서 연기가 피어오르는 모습을 보고 재빠르게 타워로 택시를 돌렸다. 곧이어 베를린 최고의 소방팀장 홀스트가 이끄는 소방구조대가 긴급 투입된다. 그러나 사고가 이어져 화재가 발생한 티비타워까지 접근할 수 있는 사람은 전직 소방대원인 톰밖에 없게된다. 일년전 사고로 아들을 잃게 된 홀스트 팀장은 아들 사망 원인이 당시 팀원이었던 톰의 부주의 때문이었다고 굳게 믿는다. 이 때문에 톰은 소방관을 그만두게되고 톰은 홀스트의 딸이자 여자친구였던 카차와 헤어지게 된다. 한편 타워에 갇힌 사람들 중에는 톰의 옛 여자친구 카차가 포함되어있다. 톰은 화염 속에서 구조를 시도하지만 홀스트와의 갈등으로 구조에 차질이 빚어지는데...

방송국 청소부로 일하는 조는 우연한 기회에 라디오 토크쇼에 출연해 부모를 찾으러 다니며 겪은 사연을 이야기하게 된다. 부모에 대한 단서를 주리라 기대하고 찾아간 사람은 연쇄 살인범이었다는 식의 황당한 이야기가 방송되면서 조는 일약 유명인사가 된다. 결국 조는 부모를 찾는 대신 사랑을 얻게 된다.

순직한 소방관의 아들로 역시 소방관의 길을 걷는 두 형제, 하지만 형인 스티븐(Stephen McCaffrey : 커트 러셀 분)은 사명감이 없는 동생 브라이언(Brian McCaffrey : 윌리암 볼드윈 분)을 못마땅해하고 브라이언은 독불장군인 형을 싫어해서 사사건건 부딪히고 서로를 못마땅해 한다. 한편 백드래프트라는 희귀한 폭발 현상으로 3명이 차례로 죽는 사건이 발생하자 화재조사관인 림게일(Donald Rimgale : 로버트 드니로 분)이 수사에 착수하고, 형에 대한 열등감과 형과의 마찰을 견디지 못한 브라이언은 소방서를 뛰쳐나와 림게일의 조수로 일하게 된다. 조사 끝에, 사고가 아니라 살인을 목적으로한 방화라는 사실을 알아내고 시의원인 스와이잭(Alderman Marty Swayzak : J.T. 웰쉬 분)을 용의자로 지목하지만 범인이 스와이잭마저 죽이려다 미수에 그친 사건이 발생하자 사건은 미궁에 빠진다. 감옥에 수감 중인 희대의 방화범으로부터 힌트를 얻는 브라이언은 형을 의심하지만, 그 순간 진짜 범인이 오랜 친구이자 동료인 소방관 에드콕스(John Adcox : 스콧 글렌 분)라는 걸 알게 되고, 그 사실을 안 스티븐은 에드콕스를 설득하려 한다. 그러나 화학공장에 대화재가 발생하는 바람에 사고 현장에 출동한 스티븐과 브라이언은 에드콕스로부터 돈을 벌기위해 소방인력을 감축하고, 그럼으로써 결국 소방관의 생명을 위협한 스와이잭과 그 동업자들을 살려둘 수 없었다는 에드콕스의 고백을 듣고 갈등한다. 그런데 그 순간 건물이 무너지고 불속에 떨어지는 에드콕스를 구하려다 스티븐도 같이 떨어진다. 에드콕스는 숨지고 스티븐은 중상을 입고 브라이언에게 에드콕스가 범인임을 밝히지 말라는 유언을 남긴 채 결국 세상을 떠난다. 림게일과 브라이언은 스와이잭의 비리를 공개하고, 브라이언은 다시 소방서로 복귀한다.

After an asteroid draws an astronaut and his ship to its surface, he is miniaturized by the phantom planet's exotic atmosphere.

After New York City firefighter Terry Lynch is unable to receive any compensation for an injury incurred during the off-duty rescue of a young girl, he grows suicidal. Furious, his brother Jimmy attempts to have Mayor Tyler intervene, but the corrupt politician instead denounces Terry as a drunk. Determined to get justice, Jimmy begins a graffiti campaign of embarrassing slogans mocking the mayor, which soon captivates the city.

A giant asteroid is heading toward Earth so some astronauts disembark from a nearby space station to blow it up. The mission is successful, and they return to the station unknowingly bringing back a gooey green substance that mutates into one-eyed tentacled monsters that feed off electricity. Soon the station is crawling with them, and people are being zapped left and right!
