In 1948, aspiring songwriter Tony works as a bar pianist; he meets aspiring star Lola, and is immediately smitten. At Manhattan's Copacabana lounge, they both start finding fame. However, fate steps in and she is swept to Havana to work in a splashy nightclub act where she is convinced she will find her stardom. Instead, she finds Rico, a suave gangster and the club owner.

Hanif and Dean steal a cache of drugs from Dean's psychotic brother Jerry, and at the last minute get a lift with Mimi as she decides to drive to Perth. They pick up a drunken singer, Morris, as they cross the country, chased by Jerry.

대학 신입생인 마이크는 레슬링 선수 출신으로 아버지가 가족들을 버리고 동성 연인에게로 떠나자 큰 실망과 배신감을 느낀다. 한편 학교 사이트는 해킹 당해 곧 있을 비트다운 홍보 영상으로 도배되는데, 비트다운은 비밀리에 열리는 이종격투기 대회로 하루 밤 2시간 동안 16명의 파이터가 겨뤄 최고 파이터에게 1만 달러의 상금이 주어지는 젊은이들의 격투 축제다. 선배인 맥스로부터 출전할 선수를 소개시켜달라는 제의를 받은 마이크는 자신이 직접 대회에 출전하기로 마음 먹는다. 복싱 선수 출신인 바람둥이 잭도 경기 홍보 영상을 보고 맥스를 찾아간다. 맥스는 마이크와 잭에게 경기 전까지 격투기 고수인 케이지를 찾아가 격투에 대한 수련을 받으라고 소개한다. 케이지는 촉망 받는 MMA 파이터였지만 6년 전 홀연히 사라졌는데, 교도소에 갔다가 지금은 가석방 상태다. 마이크와 잭은 케이지를 찾아가 스승이 되어주길 청하고 본격적인 수련이 시작된다. 케이지의 연습장에는 동네 불량배들에게 매일 당해서 찾아온 만화가게 점원 저스틴과 어려운 형편 때문에 고심하는 팀이 이미 케이지에게 수련 받고 있었고, 그들은 케이지만의 독특한 훈련방식에 서서히 적응해가면 실력을 키워간다. 그러나 흑인이고 이방인이라는 이유로 경찰들에게 계속 감시를 당하던 케이지는 연습장으로 사용하던 공터에서 떠나라는 명령을 받는다. 자신을 떠나라는 케이지의 말을 뒤로하고, 마이크와 친구들은 낡은 창고를 개조해 케이스의 격투클럽을 만들고 수련을 계속한다. 그런 와중에 자신을 괴롭히던 불량배들에게 잔혹하게 복수한 저스틴은 신이 나서 케이지를 찾아가지만 저스틴의 행동에 분노한 케이지는 저스틴을 다시 받아주지 않는다. 이에 울분을 품은 저스틴은 피가 묻은 총을 케이지의 숙소에 몰래 두고 그를 함정에 빠뜨린다. 대회를 앞두고 케이지는 경찰에 잡혀가고, 급박한 상황 속에서 경기가 시작된다.
