X : 언헐드 뮤직 (1986)

스파이크 리는 연쇄살인극을 뒤쫓는 추리극 대신 그 공포가 불러일으키는 집단 히스테리를 분석하는 작업을 택했다. 사건이 발생한 뉴욕 브롱크스에 사는 헤어드레서 비니는 아내 디오나를 속이고 사촌처제와 야간 데이트를 하다가 '샘의 아들'의 범죄현장을 목격한다. 비니는 살인범이 '목격자'인 자신을 공격할지 모른다고 두려워하고, 단서를 잡지 못한 경찰은 마피아를 찾아가 범인 검거를 도와달라고 부탁한다. 정의의 수호자가 되어버린 마피아가 내건 상금에 고무돼 비니의 동네 건달친구들은 수상한 사람들을 사냥하기 시작하고, 펑크족 차림으로 따돌림당하던 친구 리치를 최종 사냥감으로 지목한다. 양성애자에 포르노 영화를 찍었다는 것이 혐의의 전부다.

노우드(Norwood: 사이 리차드슨 분), 윌리(Willy: 딕 루드 분), 심스(Simms: 조 스트러머 분)라는 3명의 살인 청부업자가 어느날 한 임산부 벨마(Velma: 코트니 러브 분)를 납치한 후 은행을 털어 황폐한 마을로 도주한다. 벨디는 그 마을에서 떠나자고 제의하지 만 세 남자는 계속 술을 마시다가 마을의 갱과 싸우는 중에 우연히도 맥미혼이라는 사악한 무법자와 만나게 된다. 어느날 맥미혼의 농장에서 벌어지는 파티에 초청받은 세 남자는 분위기에 젖어 경솔하게 은행강도 일에 대해 발설, 일이 꼬이기 시작한다. 복수와 탐욕, 허욕들이 속출하고 몇몇 생존자들은 중요한 한 가지 일을 깨닫게 되는데.

1984년 7월 3일, 유니다(Uneeda) 의료용품 공급업체에 갓 취업한 프레디는 이곳에서 오랫동안 일해온 프랭크에게 여러가지 시체들에 얽힌 믿을 수 없는 괴상한 이야기를 듣는다. 15여 년 전인 1969년 피츠버그 재향군인 병원에서 화학 물질이 땅 속에 흘러들어 시체들이 깨어일어난다. 그 화학 물질은 데럴 화학이 미군을 위해 개발 중이었던 약품인데 오염된 시체들을 파내고 극비에 붙여 사건을 수습했다고 한다. 그런데 수송국의 착오로 시체들을 데럴사가 아닌 유니다로 가져왔다는 이야기였다. 그러면서 믿기지 않는 표정의 프레드를 지하실로 데려가 직접 살아있는 시체를 보여준다

로봇 공학자인 벤 자브리는 인도 태생으로 미국 시민권을 얻기 위해 애쓰는 사람이다. 그는 군사용 목적의 로봇을 주문받아 '조니 5'를 만드는데 '조니 5'의 자체 지능이 개발되는 바람에 회사에서 쫓겨난다. 무작정 뉴욕으로 온 벤은 장난감 로봇 노점상으로 전락한다.
