On 11 July 1346 Edward III's Anglo/Welsh army landed at St Vaast in the Cotentin Peninsula. Over 12 months this army won 3 major battles Caen, Blanchtaque and Crecy and captured Calais, which would remain in English hands until 1558.This campaign was the first major chapter in the story of what was later called the 100 years War.This campaign is not only notable for the military victories of Edward and his army but for the way it reshaped warfare on the continent, the English had arrived as a major military player. The use of Chevauchee employed by Edward's army whilst not new was used in an intelligent manner to bring the French to battle. Once the French were brought to battle Edward's Army, consisting mainly of yeoman archers and infantry, was able to beat and destroy the French Army consisting mainly of nobles by a combination of leadership, tactics, discipline, courage and technology (The Long Bow).

폭력적인 아버지와 에이즈를 앓는 어머니를 버려두고 도망 나와 요하네스버그의 타운십에서 깡패두목이 된 초치. 일당들은 지하철에서 살인을 저지르며 승객의 지갑을 강탈하는 등 아무런 죄책감을 느끼지 못한 채 범죄를 일삼는다. 하지만 초치는 살인사건으로 일당들과 말다툼을 벌인 끝에 티처를 죽도록 두들겨 팬 후 홀로 사라진다. 무리를 벗어나 홀로 방황하던 초치는 요하네스버그 부자촌에서 흑인 부유층의 차를 강탈하려다 여인을 쏜 후 차를 타고 도주한 후 문득 차안에 갓난아기가 있는 것을 발견. 쇼핑백에 담아 집으로 데려와 아기를 키우기로 결심한다. 하지만 아기를 키워본 적 없는 초치는 배가 고파 보채는 아기를 위해 인근에서 홀로 아기를 키우고 있는 젊은 여인을 총으로 위협하면서 아기 젖을 요구한다. 하지만 초치의 진심을 알고 있는 여인은 점차 아기에게 자발적으로 젖을 먹이면서 초치에게 연민의 정을 느낀다. 한편 초치는 아기를 자신의 이름인 데이빗으로 부르면서 아기와 자신을 동일시한다. 버림받은 자신과는 달리 아기를 행복하게 키우고 싶은 초치는 분유와 장난감을 가지러 일당들을 속이면서 다시 아기의 집에 침입하는데...
<황금 시대>와 <빵 없는 대지> 이후에 루이스 부뉴엘은 잠정적으로 영화를 만들지 않았다. 오랜 침묵 끝에 멕시코에서 만든 이 작품은 부뉴엘 자신이 시나리오를 쓰고 연출과 편집을 했기에 그의 예술적 자유와 사유가 가득 묻어있는 작품이다. 한달 만에 저예산으로 제작된 이 영화는 대도시 외곽의 청소년 탈선 문제를 잔혹하게 다루고 있지만 본질적으로 이 작품의 주제는 사랑 받지 못한 아이들에 관한 슬픈 이야기이다. 잔혹함을 통해 부뉴엘은 역설적으로 부패하지 않는 인간의 존엄성을 그려낸다. 그래서 이 영화는 처연한 아름다움을 풍긴다. 앙드레 바쟁은 이 영화의 미덕이 잔인함 속에서 아름다움을 찾아내고, 데카당스한 가운데 인간의 존엄성에 대한 숭고한 인내를 보여줌으로써 잔혹함을 사랑과 열정의 행위로 변형시키는데 있다고 지적했다. 바쟁은 또한 이 영화가 ‘사랑에 관한 영화이며 사랑을 필요로 하는 영화’라고 말했다.
