여러 상을 받았던 전작들 , 와 연장선상에 있는 는 감독의 영화세계가 한층 발전했다는 것을 보여준다. 봉준호에서 존 포드에 이르기까지 다양한 감독들의 작품을 참고로 하여, 감독은 호주의 오지를 배경으로 한 독창적인 스릴러를 만들어내었다. 정교하면서도 절제된 호흡을 유지하는 이 영화는 각본, 연출, 촬영, 편집, 그리고 음악에 이르기까지 거의 모든 과정을 감독 홀로 작업하였다. 또한 휴고 위빙과 잭 톰슨과 같은 호주의 스타 배우들에서부터 토니 베리, 잭 찰스, 데이비드 필드 등 개성 있는 배우들이 모두 참가하여 눈을 뗄 수 없을 정도로 인상적인 연기를 펼친다. 애론 페더슨이 연기한 경찰관은 영화의 중심축으로 황량한 마을에서 일어난 어린 소녀의 죽음을 수사하는데, 이는 험프리 보가트와 개리 쿠퍼를 연상시키기도 한다. 감독은 평등주의의 단면을 벗겨내어 여전히 호주 사회를 지배하고 있는 인종차별을 단호하게 드러내지만, 동시에 관객들에게 즐거움을 선사하는 스릴러의 본분 역시 잊지 않는다. This is the story of three characters (brothers Tomek and Jacek and their neighbor Magda), each of them is in their own way lonely and alienated. The title character makes herself secluded. Tomek's alienation results from his neurological disease, and Jacek contacts the world mainly via the Internet. This is also a film about love. Love of one brother to the other and of one alienated human being to the other. All together it creates a very universal picture with a Polish entourage.

The final confrontation has some surprises, though.
