King of the Wild Horses (1947)

초록 풀빛이 파도를 치는 광활한 대지 위로 거릴 것 없이 질주하는 야생마들의 무리, 그 선두에 뜨거운 눈빛으로 무리를 이끄는 종마 '스피릿'이 거센 대지의 바람을 가르고 있다. 이곳은 누구의 손길도 닿지 않는 미개척시대의 서부. 천국보다 아름다운 대자연 속에서 스피릿은 야생마 무리의 우두머리로 행복한 나날을 보내고 있다. 그러던 어느 날 밤, 고개 너머로 들려오는 하모니카 소리에 취해 스피릿은 무리를 벗어난다. 이 신비한 소리를 쫓아 가던 스피릿은 홀린 듯 다다른 그곳에서 난생 처음 '두 발 달린' 인간과 마주친다. 하지만 신기함도 잠시 뿐, 자신을 잡으려는 그들을 피해 스피릿은 달아나고, 숨막힌 도주에도 불구하고 결국 사람들에게 붙잡힌 스피릿은 기병부대로 팔리게 된다. 기병부대 요새로 끌려온 스피릿은 자신을 길들이려는 군인들을 차례로 낙마시키며 의기양양해 한다. 하지만 냉혹한 부대장은 물과 먹이를 끊어 스피릿을 굴복시키려 한다. 한편 군인들에게 붙잡혀 요새에 갇혀있던 인디언 청년 ‘리틀 크릭’은 스피릿을 이용해 탈출하려 하고, 스피릿은 두 발 달린 리틀 크릭을 쉽게 믿지 못하지만, 그와 함께 과감히 탈출에 성공한다. 리틀 크릭과 함께 인디언 마을로 온 스피릿은 이곳에서 리틀 크릭의 암말 ‘레인’을 만나 사랑에 빠지고, 리틀 크릭과의 우정도 깊어간다. 그리고 마침내 인디언 마을을 습격하는 기병부대의 공격에 리틀 크릭과 레인, 그리고 스피릿은 위험에 빠지는데.

어릴 적 엄마를 잃고 ‘코라’ 고모와 할아버지 손에 자란 호기심 많은 소녀 ‘럭키’는 방학동안 ‘코라’ 고모와 함께 아빠가 홀로 살고 있는 미라데로에 머물게 된다. 오랜만에 만난 아빠와의 서먹한 관계에서 어려움을 느끼던 ‘럭키’는 우연히 에너지 넘치는 야생마 ‘스피릿’을 만나 특별한 교감을 나누게 되고, 새로 사귄 친구 ‘아비게일’, ‘프루’와 함께하며 두근거림과 자유로움을 경험한다. 어느 날, ‘스피릿’과 그의 야생마 가족이 악당들에 의해 위험에 처하게 되고 ‘럭키’는 이들을 구하기 위해 친구들과 두려움을 무릅쓴 모험에 나서는데…

광활한 호주의 원시림 속에서 원대한 꿈을 키우던 짐(Jim Craig: 톰 버링슨 분)은 아버지의 갑작스런 죽음에다 설상가상으로 벌목 허가까지 빼앗기게 되자 도시로 나가 일자리를 찾는다. 냉혹하고 욕심 많은 사업가 해리슨의 목장에 잡역부로 들어간 짐은 산으로 돌아갈 날을 위해 열심히 일한다. 한편, 아버지의 뜻과는 정반대로 목장을 경영하는 여장부를 꿈꾸던 해리슨의 딸 제시카(Jessica Harrison: 시그리드 쏜톤 분)는 능숙한 소솜씨로 야생마를 길들이는 짐의 맑은 눈빛에 반해 그를 사랑하게 된다. 다른 이들의 희생 위에 이룩한 부와 명예를 딸에게 물려주고자 했던 해리슨(Harrison/Spur: 커크 더글라스 분)은 짐과 제시카의 사이를 눈치채고 그녀를 기숙학교로 보내려한다. 격렬한 언쟁 끝에 제시카는 산 속으로 말을 달린다. 제시카를 찾아 험난한 산을 헤메이던 짐은 말의 시체에 이어 벼랑에 추락한 그녀를 찾아낸다.

파리의 양복재단사 모리스는 바레즈 자작에게 값비싼 양복을 만들어주지만, 귀족의 허울뿐인 자작은 재단비를 지불하지 못한다. 결국 모리스는 자작의 성을 찾아가는데, 당황한 자작은 가족들에게 모리스를 남작이라 소개한다. 겁을 내던 모리스도 아름다운 미망인 자넷을 보자 그녀의 마음을 얻기 위해 남작 행세를 이어간다. 마물리언의 뮤지컬 코미디. 배우의 노래와 필름 편집을 절묘하게 결합한 방식이나 한 노래를 여러 배우들이 이어 부르는 방식은 당대엔 매우 혁신적이었다. In this story, that spans just one day, cruelty, courage, love and memory collide as two generations of women bear witness to the brutality common to wild horse roundups in the American West. Mills is exposed to a complex issue and follows her heart, choosing to ignore the consequences.

Young Joe is paralyzed as he is bucked by a wild horse, a strawberry roan. Angered, his father, Walt, tries to shoot the horse but is stopped by his foreman, Gene Autry.
