다니엘 밀러(알버트 브룩스)는 생일날 새로 산 차를 타고 가다가 카스테레오에 정신이 팔려 운전부주의로 마주오던 트럭에 치어 숨진다. 눈을 떠보니 그는 저승 세계에 와 있는 것이었다. '심판도시'라는 그곳은 이승과 저승의 구분점으로 이승에서의 행적을 기준으로 재판을 하고 영혼들은 자신의 과거에 대한 자아 변론을 스스로 해야만하며 그 결과에 따라 저승으로 가거나 이승으로 돌려보내지게 되는 것이다. 이 황당한 시스템에 차츰 적응하게 되고 재판 날짜도 받아놓은 다니엘은 심판 도시를 어슬렁거리다 한 아름다운 여인과 좋아하게 되는데 그녀는 줄리아라는 이름으로 다니엘처럼 재판을 받고 있는 중이었다. 저승에서의 사랑이 새롭게 싹트고 다니엘은 매일 매일 줄리아를 만나 식사하고 산책도 하면서 즐거운 시간을 보낸다. 그러나, 언제까지나 계속되리라 여기던 그의 저승 생활에 먹구름이 끼기 시작하는데...

Portsmouth, 1794. Under thundery skies and in lashing rain, 17-year-old midshipman Horatio Hornblower takes the first tentative steps of his naval career, but a feud with a shipmate causes complications.

1800년대 나폴레옹이 프랑스를 지배하던 때, 프랑스군의 청년 장교인 알몬드 듀베르(키이스 캐러딘 분)은 시장의 조카를 상대로 결투를 벌여 큰 상처를 입힌 프랑스군의 청년 장교 가브리엘 페로(하비 케이틀 분)를 체포하라는 명령을 받는다. 공교롭게 페로는 듀베르가 자신을 모욕했다며 결투를 신청하지만 손놀림이 좀 더 빠른 듀베르에게 부상을 입어 승부를 가리지 못한다. 페로는 자신의 실추된 명예를 되찾겠다는 일념으로 전쟁 중에는 결투를 금지한다는 프랑스 법으로 인해 반년을 기다려 다시 결투를 신청한다. 이렇게 시작된 두 사람의 결투는 나폴레옹이 폴란드를 침공하고, 러시아로 진격해가는 과정에서도 그치지 않고 15년간이나 계속된다. 듀베르는 사랑하는 사람과 결혼을 하고 가정을 꾸려 평범한 삶을 살아가고자 하지만 명예를 되찾기 위해 혈안이 된 페로가 계속 방해를 한다. 처음엔 페로의 끊임없는 결투 신청을 피해보려던 듀베르도 차츰 결투에 집착하게 되고, 정권이 바뀌어 페로가 반역자 명단에 오르기도 하지만 결투를 계속하기 위해 그의 사건을 중재하는 일까지 벌어진다. 결국 15년간이나 계속된 두 사람의 결투는 차츰 '왜 싸우는가?'에 대한 이유조차 잊어버린 채 서로에 대한 증오와 집착으로 변해버린 채, 폐허가 된 성에서 서로 총을 겨누며 마지막 결전을 벌이게 된다.

19세기초 프랑스의 맹공을 받게 된 제정 러시아의 피에르는 나폴레옹을 숭배한다. 청순한 나타샤를 사랑하는 피에르. 그의 재산을 탐낸 쿠라긴 공작은 자신의 딸과 결혼시키는데 성공한다. 나타샤의 오빠 니콜라스는 전쟁 중 도망쳐오고, 안드레이는 전쟁의 현실을 목격하고 돌아온 후, 지금껏 괴롭혔던 아내 리제의 죽음으로 환멸에 빠진다. 결혼 생활에 실패한 피에르는 전쟁의 참상을 보고 나폴레옹을 숭배했던 자신을 저주한다. 포로로 감옥에서 실신한 플라톤을 만나 생의 진실을 깨달은 피에르는 마침내 쿠투조프의 초토 퇴각 작전이 성공, 프랑스군이 깨끗이 소탕되는 것으로 종말되는 전쟁의 와중에서 기적적으로 살아 남는다. 부흥의 싹이 트기 시작한 초토화된 거리에서 성숙한 나타샤는 피에르를 기다리고 있었다.

사촌뻘 되는 유부녀 소냐를 사랑하는 청년 보리스 그루센코(우디 알렌 분)은 가망없는 겁쟁이지만, 나폴레옹 군대가 침입해 오자 하는 수 없이 러시아군에 입대하기로 한다. 전선으로 떠나기 전 보리스는 가족들과 함께 오페라를 관람하고, 그곳에서 미망인 알렌산드드로프나 백작부인(올가 조지스 피콧 분)의 추파를 받는다. 그러나 그녀의 곁에는 그녀를 지키는 질투심 많은 구혼자(해롤드 골드 분) 가 있었고, 그들은 할 수 없이 나중을 기약하며 헤어진다. 전투에 투입된 보리스는 걸핏하면 넘어지거나 달아나지 않으면, 칼을 부러뜨리는 등 말썽만 일으키다, 전쟁터에서 도망치기 위해 프랑스 대포 안에 몸을 숨긴다. 그러나 보리스의 이러한 행동은 그의 운명을 바꿔놓는다. 대포가 발사되어 튕겨져 나간 보리스는 프랑스 장군들의 막사에 떨어져 엉겹결에 그들을 죽이게 되고, 결국 전쟁영웅이 되어 돌아온다. 러시아로 돌아온 보리스는 백작부인과 열정적인 하룻밤을 보내고, 이를 알게 된 그녀의 광적인 구혼자는 보리스에게 결투를 신청한다. 저격수 뺨치는 사격솜씨를 자랑하는 인물과의 결투에서 자신이 죽게 될 거라고 생각한 보리스는 소냐에게 청혼을 하고, 소냐는 내키지는 않지만 내일 죽게 될 거라는 말하는 보리스를 차마 뿌리치지 못해 승낙한다. 그러나 보리스는 운 좋게도 결투에서 살아서 돌아오는데, 이번에는 소냐가 나폴레옹 암살 계획을 꾸미고, 그러나 암살 계획은 실패로 끝나고 보리스는 총살형에 처해진다.

한 때 부유했던 월터 경의 세 딸, 엘리자베스, 안느, 그리고 마리의 이야기. 아들이 없는 것을 늘 아쉬워했던 월터 경은 부인이 죽은 뒤 살림을 꾸려나가지 못하고 흥청망청 산다. 그 덕분에 많은 빚을 지고, 결국 살고 있던 켈린치 저택을 해군제독 크로포트에게 임대해주고 바쓰로 가게 된다. 안느는 결혼한 동생 마리의 집에 잠시 머무는데, 그곳에서 8년 전 그녀에게 사랑을 고백했던 웬트워쓰 대위를 만난다.

Colic tells a story of a couple Pongpob and Phraeploy who have a shotgun wedding upon discovering that Praeploy has unexpectedly become pregnant. After the wedding, Pongpob brings Phraeploy to his mother's suburban home. The night before Praeploy delivers the child, the house next to theirs catches on fire. When the baby is delivered, and is brought to their house, he screams and cries with no reason. When an attack occurs Sharpe takes control of the situation, leading the group 300 miles through enemy territory and training the disorganized, rag-tag group to be proper soldiers. Despite all these responsibilities, Sharpe still manages to find time for a little romance...
