The Last Page (1952)

1984년 6월. 젊은 프로그래머 스테판 버틀러는 제롬 F. 데이비스가 쓴 밴더스내치라는 게임북을 게임화하려는 열망을 품고 있었다. 버틀러는 소설의 게임화를 위하여 잘나가는 게임 회사인 터커 소프트에 찾아가서 사장인 모함 터커와 수석 제작자 콜린 리트먼에게 밴더스내치의 게임화를 제안한다. 버틀러는 게임의 크리스마스 시즌 발매를 목표로 잡고, 터커에게 자사 직원들과 함께 게임을 제작하자는 제안을 받는다. 그리고 서서히 무너져 내리는 가상과 현실의 경계. 이제 게임의 엔딩은 그의 선택에 달려 있다.

IRA 지도자였던 조니(Johnny McQueen: 제임스 메이슨 분)는 감옥을 탈출한 뒤 동료들과 함께 지하 조직의 운영자금을 벌기 위해 북아일랜드, 벌패스트에 있는 어느 공장의 금전 출납부를 털 계획을 세운다. 그러나 동료들과 함께 공장의 금전 출납부를 털고 나오던 중, 조니는 뒤쫓아온 사람에게 붙잡히고 만다. 그와 몸싸움을 벌이던 중 총기오발로 그 사람을 살해하고 자신도 왼쪽 어깨에 심한 부상을 입은 조니는 혼자서 도망가게 된다. 그때부터 조니는 심한 불안감에 시달린다. 조니는 자신을 팔아넘기려는 사람과 자신을 도우려는 많은 사람들을 만나게 된다. 한편 조니의 연인이었던 캐드린(Kathleen: 캐서린 라이안 분)은 사방팔방으로 조니를 찾아 헤매고 경찰은 그런 캐드린의 뒤를 집요하게 추적한다. 여러 곳을 헤매다니던 조니는 정신이상증세를 보이는 미친 화가에게 붙잡히게 되고, 화가는 조니에게 자신이 그림을 완성할 때까지 포즈를 취해 줄 것을 강요한다. 그러나 정작 부두에서 그들을 기다리는 것은 죽음, 조니와 함께 죽음을 결심한 캐드린은 경찰이 다가오는 것을 보고 준비해 놓은 권총을 꺼내 경찰을 향해 발포한다. 조니가 대항한다고 생각한 경찰은 조니와 캐드린을 향해 무차별 사격을 가하고 하얗게 눈이 내리던 그날 밤, 조니와 캐드린은 목숨을 잃고 마는데...

1947년 영국의 한 휴양도시 브라이튼을 배경으로 실제 갱단 두목의 이야 기를 그린 (브라이튼 룩)은 차가운 시선을 가진 갱스터영화의 고전이다. 특히 롤러코스터에서의 끔찍한 살인을 아무런 주관적인 감정을 넣지 않고그려내, 묘한 서스펜스를 느끼게 해준다. 그렇지만 더욱 놀라운 것은 이 두목이 어른이 아닌 어린 나이의 청소년이라는 점이다. 우리에게 (간디)로 익숙한 리처드 아텐보로는 양심이라고는 찾아 볼 수 없는 냉혈한 캐릭터의 어린 갱두목 핑키 역을 훌륭하게 소화해내 주목을 끌었다.데일리 메신서의 대표 키버는 카드를 숨겨두고 이것을 찾는 자에게 상금 을 주겠다고 말한다. 어린 갱 두목 핑키는 놀이 동산에서 카드를 가지고 있던 프레드를 무자비하게 살해한다. 그리고 이 카드를 스파이서에게 숨겨두라고 명령한다.
