코만도 레알 (2018)

사진기자 리차드(제임스 우즈)는 20여년을 싸움터를 찾아다니며 극한 상황 속에서의 인간의 삶과 죽음을 카메라에 담아왔다. 하지만 지금 리처드는 월남전과 캄보디아전에서 받은 충격을 극복하지 못한 채 샌프란시스코의 빈민가에 처박혀 지낸다. 그런 그를 다시 부른 곳은 엘살바도르 내전. 리처드는 친구인 의사 록(제임스 벨루시)과 함께 엘살바도르로 간다. 엘살바도르의 현실은 월남전의 재탕, 그 자체다. 미국의 지원을 받는 군정 당국의 부패한 모습이나 연일 수십 명이 사살되거나 실종되고 있다. 심지어 반정부 발언을 하던 추기경 로메로까지 제단에서 총격을 받아 숨지는 상황이다. 리처드는 그 상황에서 사진 기자로서의 역할을 충실히 실행한다. 그러나 도움을 주었던 옛친구 존 캐시의 눈밖에 나서 가짜 서류를 만들어 옛친구인 마리아와 함께 탈출을 감행한다. 그러나 국경에서 마리아는 살바도르로 되돌아가야 했고, 리처드는 아직도 마리아를 찾아 헤맨다.

38선 휴전 이후 지리산의 빨치산들은 토벌대의 끊임없는 추격에 맥을 못춘다. 협곡 피아골을 본거지로 숨어있는 아가리 부대는 어느날 지서 일각을 습격하였다가 실패하고 도망오는 도중 부상으로 인하여 소총을 버리고 온 대원을 총살한다. 이런 무자비한 처사에 대원들은 공포 속에서 서로 외면한다. 모순된 생리 속에서 문화정치책인 김철수는 인간본연의 향수로 고민이 심각해진다. 한편 그의 기품있는 체취에 연정을 품은 여간부 애란에게 대장 아가리는 추근 거린다. 철수가 냉정할 수록 애란의 연정을 불타게 되나 오히려 철수의 증오 상징이 된다. 이때 피아골도 포위되었다는 정보를 전하러 온 여자대원 소주는 대원 만수와 유철에게 윤간을 당하고 쓰러져 버린다. 소주의 시체를 발견한 달석은 혐의를 받고 공포에 떤다. 아가리의 열화같은 발악으로 공포에 사로 잡힌 만수는 자기 비행의 폭로가 두려워 동료 유철과 달석을 살해하고 아가리에게 반동을 처단했다고 보고한다. 난데없이 쏟아지는 포탄에 만수는 쓰러지고 철수는 간신히 암굴까지 피신했으나 실신해 버린다. 이튿날 아침 암굴 속에 애란이가 있음을 보고 놀란 철수는 골짜기로 내려가서 굶주림과 갈증으로 죽어가는 용식의 몸에서 구명미를 챙겨들어 애란이와 나누어 먹으면서 애란의 인간적인 본심을 알게 되고 애란의 사랑을 비로소 느끼게 된다. 이 정경을 본 아가리가 질투와 분노로 인해 달려들어 단도로 철수를 쓰러뜨린 순간 애란이 쏜 총탄으로 그 자리에서 쓰러지고 만다. 애란은 철수를 부축하고 산을 내려왔지만 곧 섬진강을 건널 무렵 자유천지를 눈앞에 두고 철수는 절명하고 만다. 애인을 잃은 인간 애란은 이제 자유세계의 관대한 품안에서 씻지 못할 죄악을 안은채, 애처롭게 홀로 일어선다. 지리산 기슭에는 아침 햇살이 반짝이고 있었다.
