닥(Doc McCoy: 알렉 볼드윈 분)은 죄수를 탈출시켜 주는 대가로 돈을 받기로 하지만 함정에 빠져 감옥에 가게 된다. 그의 아내 캐롤(Carol McCoy: 킴 베신저 분)은 남편의 친구이자 두목인 베논(Jack Benyon: 제임스 우즈 분)에게 닥을 보석시켜 달라고 부탁한다. 베논은 그 조건으로 캐롤을 유혹하고, 베논의 도움으로 보석된 닥은 루디(Rudy Travis: 마이클 매드슨 분)와 한슨(Frank Hansen: 필립 S. 호프만 분) 그리고 캐롤과 함께 팀을 구성하여 금고를 턴다. 닥은 밖에 대기하고 있던 캐롤과 떠나고, 루디, 한슨과 한적한 장소에서 만나기로 한다. 닥과 살인자 루디는 서로 죽이려다 루디가 닥의 총에 맞는다. 닥은 베논을 찾아간다. 베논은 닥 앞에서 캐롤을 모욕하고, 둘이 얘기하고 있는 도중 캐롤이 베논을 쏘아 버린다. 자기를 위해 은밀한 거래를 할 수 밖에 없었던 아내를 이해하면서도 닥은 남편으로서 분노한다. 그러나 둘은 서로에 대한 진정한 사랑을 확인하고 거액의 돈과 함께 멕시코로 도주하지만 경찰의 추적으로 목숨을 건 탈출을 시도한다. 한편 닥의 총에 맞았던 루디는 목숨은 간신히 건진채 팔에 부상을 당한채 닥과 캐롤을 쫓아다닌다. 한편 베논의 부하들도 거액의 돈을 찾아 닥과 캐롤을 계속 추적하던 중 그들과 마주치게 된다. 닥과 캐롤은 국경 근처의 조그만 호텔에서 베논의 부하들과, 루디 일행과의 목숨을 건 총격전을 벌인다.

1940년, 이태리 파시스트 정권이 제2차 세계대전에 참전하려는 때. 은퇴한 전직교수인 니노는 18살 연하인 미모의 젊은 새 아내 테레사, 그리고 파시스트의 청년 조직인 '검은 샤츠' 당원인 딸 리자와 함께 베니스에서 여생을 보낸다. 젊은 시절, 니노를 열광시켰던 학문과 예술, 고상한 인간 영혼에 대한 관심은 이제 늙은 그에게는 모두 허무한 인생의 과거일 뿐이다. 지금은 젊은 아내를 맘껏 사랑하는 것에서 꺼져가는 삶의 의미를 찾으려 한다. 교수의 젊은 아내로서 정숙함과 근면함으로 교육된 테레사는 니노의 집요한 유혹에도 좀처럼 허물어지지 않는다. 아내를 좀더 개방적이고 성적으로 자유로운 여성으로 만들고 싶은 니노는 일기장에 아내에 대한 은밀한 요구를 기록해서 벽장에 감추고, 그 열쇠를 아내가 매일 청소하는 카페트 밑에 숨긴다. 자연스럽게 남편의 일기를 읽게 된 테레사는 남편의 요구에 놀라지만 어느새 남편이 바라는 여자로 변해간다. 남편이 원했던 남편의 제자 라즈로와의 형식적인 밀회가 시간이 지날수록 그녀의 숨겨진 본능을 자극하게 되자 테레사는 갈등과 죄의식으로 고민하고, 자신의 심리적 변화를 남편에게 알리려고 일기를 쓴다. 겉으로는 서로 모른척 하면서도 서로의 내심을 일기를 써서 전달하는 이상한 '부부게임'이 시작되는데..

A cop and his sexually frustrated wife are struggling to keep their failing marriage intact, when by chance she finds that he is at heart a voyeuristic peeping tom. To satisfy him and herself, his wife has numerous affairs, which her husband watches on closed-circuit televison. However, the pair soon learn that when you play with fire, you'll always get burned.

Vixen lives in a Canadian mountain resort with her naive pilot husband. While he's away flying in tourists, she gets it on with practically everybody including a husband and his wife, and even her biker brother. She is openly racist, and she makes it clear that she won't do the wild thing with her brother's biker friend, who is black.

While examining one of her patients, a doctor reveals that her husband is cheating with the patient's wife.

Charlie and his boss have difficulties just getting to the house they are going to wallpaper. The householder is angry because he can't get breakfast and his wife is screaming at the maid as they arrive. The kitchen gas stove explodes, and Charlie offers to fix it. The wife's secret lover arrives and is passed off as the workers' supervisor, but the husband doesn't buy this and fires shots. The stove explodes violently, destroying the house.

A young woman is hired to care for an elderly man who lives on an island off the Greek coast. When she arrives there the man warns her that his daughters are evil and dangerous. The woman discovers that one of the daughters is a crazed nymphomaniac who pursues, and seduces, everyone in the house, including her crippled sister.

Kreola arrives in Santa Domingo to join her photographer husband Andy. Although Andy is initially jealous of Marco, who is in town looking for his missing girlfriend who did not return from Santa Domingo with her coworkers after a girls getaway. When Kreola and Andy site the missing girl Iris in the company of their gruff, dominating sea captain Leon, Andy suggests Kreola distract him so that Marco has a chance of getting Iris back. Kreola scoffs at this but eventually does fall under Leon's spell. Andy's writer friend Jo Ann blames the island atmosphere for the tendency for puritanical Westerners to reject their inhibitions. When Andy and Marco cannot free their women from Leon's influence, things get drastic.

They find brief entertainment and relief in a village behind the lines, but primarily terror fills their lives as the attacks on and from the French army ebb and flow. One of the men, Karl, goes home on leave only to discover the degradation forced on his family by wartime poverty. He returns to the lines in time to face an enormous attack by French tanks.
