영국에 유학해 변호사 자격을 딴 간디(벤 킹슬리)는 1893년 남아프리카에 가 소송사건을 맡는다. 간디는 그 곳에서 유색인종에 대한 차별대우를 받게 된다. 이를 계기로 그는 남아프리카의 인도 거류민을 돕기 위한 다양한 활동을 시작한다. 이후 1915년, 간디는 인도로 돌아와 인도독립을 위한 노력을 하게 된다. 그는 비폭력운동을 주도하면서 수차례 투옥되기도 한다. 인도는 마침내 1947년 8월 영국으로부터 독립을 이룬다. 그러나 힌두교와 이슬람교의 종교적 대립으로 인해 인도와 파키스탄으로 나뉘어 독립을 하게 된다. 이후에도 종교분쟁을 해결하기 위해 노력했던 간디는 1948년 1월 과격파 힌두교도가 쏜 총탄에 암살당한다.

1974년 2차 세계대전 당시 스페인의 독재자 프랑코 정권하에서 무정부주의 활동을 하며 은행강도로 활동자금을 마련하다 결국 잡혀서 사형당한 '살바도르 푸이그 안티흐'에 대한 일대기이다.

Santiago, capital of Chile during the Marxist government of elected, highly controversial president Salvador Allende. Father McEnroe supports his leftist views by introducing a program at the prestigious "collegio" (Catholic prep school) St. Patrick to allow free admission of some proletarian kids. One of them is Pedro Machuca, slum-raised son of the cleaning lady in Gonzalo Infante's liberal-bourgeois home. Yet the new classmates become buddies, paradoxically protesting together as Gonzalo gets adopted by Pedro's slum family and gang. But the adults spoil that too, not in the least when general Pinochet's coup ousts Allende, and supporters such as McEnroe.

이상주의자인 영화제작자 세바스찬(가엘 가르시아 베르날, 모토사이클 다이어리)은 시니컬한 프로듀서 코스타(루이스 토사, 리미츠 오브 컨트롤)와 크리스토퍼 콜럼버스의 미국 정복 이야기에 대한 새로운 시각의 영화를 만들기 위해 볼리비아에 도착한다. 하지만 영화 촬영이 시작되자, 지역 주민들이 수도 공급을 장악한 다국적 기업에 대항해 시위를 시작한다. 영화 촬영이 어려워지자, 두 사람의 신념은 흔들리게 된다. 2000년 볼리비아에 실제 일어났던 물 전쟁에 영감을 받아 제작된 ‘이븐 더 레인’에서는 스페인 제국주의의 영향을 살펴본다. 압박과 500년이 지난 지금까지도 착취와 압박에 대항해 계속해서 저항하고 있는 원주민들의 모습이 시사하는 바가 크다.

2005년 12월, 다니엘 맥고원(Daniel McGowan)은 지구해방전선(ELF)과 연관된 급진 환경주의자들에 대한 전국가적인 수색작업을 실시한 연방 기구에 의해 체포되었다. 이 단체는 FBI가 미국 내 “최고의 국내 테러리즘의 위협”이라고 부르는 단체이다. 수년 동안, ELF는 중앙 리더가 없이 분리된 익명의 조직들로 운영되고 있었는데, 이들이 환경을 파괴하고 있다고 고발했었던 수십 개의 회사들에 대해 엄청난 방화를 개시하게 된다. 목재 회사, SUV 대리점, 야생마 도축장, 그리고 콜로라도 주 베일의 1천 2백만 달러 가치의 스키 관리 사무소 등이다. 정부는 다니엘 외 13명을 체포하였고, 미국 내 아마도 가장 컸던 ELF 조직을 잡았으며, 가장 최초로 ELF 방화에 책임을 가진 단체를 붕괴시켰다. 이 영화는, 한 조직원의 변화와 급진화에 초점을 맞추어, 이 ELF 조직의 흥망에 대한 엄청난 이야기를 전하고 있다. 성인이 되는 시기의 이야기, 경찰관과 강도놀이 같은 스릴러 등의 이야기를 보여주면서, 이 영화는 곧 감옥에 갈 예정이며 가택연금 상태에 있는 다니엘의 진실된 연대기를 섞고 있다. 이 이야기에는 이 집단과 그가 연관을 맺게 된 사건들을 드라마적으로 이야기 하고 있다. 또한 이렇게 영화가 흘러가다가, 환경, 운동, 그리고 우리가 테러리즘이라고 정의하는 방식에 대한 어려운 질문을 던진다. Five broken cameras – and each one has a powerful tale to tell. Embedded in the bullet-ridden remains of digital technology is the story of Emad Burnat, a farmer from the Palestinian village of Bil’in, which famously chose nonviolent resistance when the Israeli army encroached upon its land to make room for Jewish colonists. Emad buys his first camera in 2005 to document the birth of his fourth son, Gibreel. Over the course of the film, he becomes the peaceful archivist of an escalating struggle as olive trees are bulldozed, lives are lost, and a wall is built to segregate burgeoning Israeli settlements.

비극의 발단 - 1972년 1월 31일. 북아일랜드 데리 시의 주민들은 영국정부의 불법억류에 반대하고 시민권을 주장하기 위해 평화적인 행진을 벌이기로 한다. 데리시민권협의회 대표이자 영국의회 하원의원인 아이반 쿠퍼는 IRA의 무력적인 저항방식에 반대하며 평화행진을 주도한다. 그는 비폭력적인 시위만이 그동안의 차별과 억압에서 벗어나 정당한 권리를 되찾을 유일한 방법임을 역설하면서 시민들이 행진에 참가하도록 설득한다. 그러나 행진이 시작되기도 전에, 도시는 불안한 조짐을 보이며 술렁인다. 도시를 봉쇄한 군대와 시민행렬의 대치 - 북아일랜드 지역에서 벌어지는 모든 집회를 불법행위로 규정해온 영국정부는 이번 행진도 잠재적인 폭력사태로 간주, 폭도진압을 위해 공수부대를 포함한 대규모의 군대를 배치하여 데리 시를 봉쇄해버린다. 진압군 총사령관 포드 장군은 처음부터 평화시위 자체를 부정하며 시위 중 당연히 발생할 것으로 확신하는 무력행위에 병사들이 즉각 반격하도록 지시한다. 약간의 자극만으로도 폭발해버릴 듯한 초 긴장 상태에서, 아이반은 충돌을 막기 위해 계획했던 행진루트를 변경하는 등 동분서주하는데... 행진에 참가한 일부 청년들이 대열에서 이탈하여 돌을 던지며 흥분하기 시작하면서 점차 상황은 통제불가능한 사태로 발전하는데. 공수부대의 과잉진압과 무고한 시민의 희생 - 영국군은 청년들이 과격해진다는 것을 빌미로 공수부대까지 투입하며 진압에 나선다. 이 과정에서 대대간의 연락이 엉키고 명령은 전달될수록 왜곡되어 고무탄과 가스수류탄은 곧 진짜 총알로 대체된다. 결국 공수부대의 무차별 총격으로 노인과 부녀자를 포함해 13명이 숨지고 14명이 부상당하는 참사가 벌어진다. 고요하고 평화롭던 도시 데리는 순식간에 피로 물들고 유족들의 눈물바다로 변한다.

Stipan is a policeman who comes to small Adriatic island off the Croatian coast in order to investigate reported strange phenomena that had frightened the whole population. At first, nobody wants to co-operate with him, but he finally finds that the island is being allegedly haunted by the ghost of Josip Broz Tito, Communist leader of former Yugoslavia. For Luka, the mayor, this is the opportunity to turn entire island into Tito-themed amusement park. Tito's WW2 veterans, on the other hand, don't believe in ghosts; for them, the apparition is actually Tito himself, who had returned in order to lead them into a new revolution which would restore Communism. A German family Keller arrives to the coastal village to spend summer holidays with their Croatian friends. Horst Keller and Roger Katushic were friends ever since Karl May's film adaptations took place there. Their children were friends for years, too, and they look forward to the reunion. Fantasizing about free life and "cowboys & Indians" adventures in the canyon of the Cetina river, the boys go there without knowing that the three cruel Chetniks who had just escaped from prison hide there.

'Malo Misto' lives its own life, but not far behind the times. Hotel manager Roko Prč strives to organise tourism, so he introduces the first nudist beach. His wife Anđa brings two of her cousins from the Dalmatian hinterland and demands Roko to hire them. One of them, a young man named Ikan, earns the attention of a beautiful Swedish tourist. From Chile to Malo Misto returned Tonči, nicknamed Servantes, of course, without any money. He fell on the back of his hardworking aunt Keka, who even without him has enough problems of her own. Servantes also experiences an unexpected romance.
