In a touring Shakespearean theater group, a backstage hand - the dresser, is devoted to the brilliant but tyrannical head of the company. He struggles to support the deteriorating star as the company struggles to carry on during the London blitz. The pathos of his backstage efforts rival the pathos in the story of Lear and the Fool that is being presented on-stage, as the situation comes to a crisis.
'피를 빠는 변태들'은 영화 시작부터 끝까지 고문 행위로 가득한 영화다. 인간 역사의 중요한 한 부분을 차지하는 잔혹한 행위들을 이 영화는 버라이어티하게 펼쳐놓는다. 타인의 고통이 곧 나의 쾌락이 되는 관객 모두를 위한 서비스라는 식이다. 영화에 사용된 특수효과와 분장은 저예산영화답게 졸렬한 수준에 머물지만, 고문 방법은 기상천외하다. 늘 자극을 추구하는 트로마의 영화답게 고문 대상자는 여성이 위주이고, 일단 홀딱 벗기고 시작한다. 사지 절단은 기본이다. 팔, 다리, 머리를 깨끗하게 잘라내고 아주 국물이 될 정도로 으깨버리는 것은 평범한 고문에 해당한다. 유두에 전기 고문을 가하거나 눈알을 뽑아내기도 한다. 압권은 드릴로 머리에 구멍을 낸 뒤 빨대를 꽂아 뇌수를 쪽쪽 빨아먹는 장면으로, 이걸 보고 있으면 할 말을 잃는다.
'피를 빠는 변태들'은 고문 행위를 보는 것 외에는 아무런 볼거리도 의미도 없는 영화다. 영화가 이 지경이다 보니 엔딩이 가까워 올 때면 제작사에 대한 분노가 치미는 것은 당연한 결과다. 하나 은 고문 이외에 다른 어떤 부분에도 관심을 두지 않기 때문에, 가장 이상적이고 순수한 형태의 고어영화가 될 수도 있다. 대다수의 관객은 차마 볼 수 없어 고개를 돌려버리겠지만, 한때 공포영화 장르의 산업적인 측면에서 크게 기여를 했던 것이 이런 노골적인 고어영화였다는 사실은 그만큼의 수요가 있음을 증명한다.
'피를 빠는 변태들'은 그런 관객을 위해서 고문에 집중하기 때문에 요즘 쏟아지는 고문영화들에 비하면 차라리 정직해 보인다. 어차피 사람 잡아다가 고문하는 처지에 괜한 의미 부여도 하지 않고, 또 겉멋 들린 편집으로 예찬하지도 않는다. '피를 빠는 변태들'은 여전히 불쾌한 영화이지만, 최근 고문영화들과 비교하면 어떤 부분에서는 이 영화가 월등히 나아 보인다.
At birth, three children are abandoned in a convent. They are Polito Sol and his siblings, Adriana and Carmelo Águila and they grow up to become the "Águila o Sol" trio. Many years later, Don Hipólito, Polito's father becomes rich and decides to search for his son. In the end he finds Polito and the Aguila siblings.
