캘빈 파머(아이스 큐브 분)가 운영하는 이발소는 3대째 가업으로 내려오고 있는 역사가 깊은 이발소이다. 다양한 배경과 개성을 지닌 이발사들은 끊임없이 웃고 떠들면서 즐겁게 일한다. 그들의 흥겨운 분위기에 합세하여 장단을 맞추는 손님들로 인해 이발소에는 언제나 활기가 넘치지만 손님은 많지않아 이발소는 재정적인 어려움에 처한다. 그러자 캘빈은 이발소 대신 녹음 스튜디오를 열기로 하고 아내와 이발사들에게는 비밀로 한 채 2만 달러를 받고 고리대금업자 월러스에게 이발소를 넘긴다. 우연히 이 사실을 알게 된 아내는 가족의 역사가 담긴 이발소를 아무런 상의 없이 팔아치운 캘빈의 결정에 크게 실망한다. 곧 캘빈은 이발소가 가족은 물론 동네 사람들에게도 소중한 존재였다는 사실을 깨닫고, 이발소를 되찾기 위해 월러스를 만난다. 그러나 월러스가 4만 달러를 당장 내놓지 않으면 팔지 않겠다고 고집하자 캘빈은 이발소를 되찾으려는 계획을 포기한다. 한편, 전과 2범의 이발사인 리키의 사촌 JD는 그의 허락 없이 몰고 나온 트럭을 이용하여 이발소 근처의 편의점을 부수고, 현금 인출기를 훔쳐 달아난다. 현금 인출기 도난 사건을 추적하는 형사로부터 용의자로 몰린 리키는 자칫 종신형을 받을 수도 있게 되자 캘빈과 함께 JD를 찾아 나서는데...

USB 방송국의 뉴스 앵커 하워드 빌은 과장된 풍자와 독설로 한때 높은 시청률로 인기를 누렸던 인물이다. 그러나 점차 시청률이 떨어지게 되자 방송국의 사장은 빌을 해고하려고 한다. 빌은 그의 직속 상사와 함께 술을 마시는 자리에서 방송 중 자살에 대한 농담을 나누고는 고별 방송에서 시청률 저하 때문에 자살하겠다고 한다. 빌은 방송에서 교체되었지만 가까스로 고별방송을 할 수 있도록 허락받고는 시청자들에게 자신의 처지를 솔직히 털어놓는다. 그의 솔직함에 시청자들이 반응을 보이기 시작하며 시청률이 급등하자 프로그램 기획자인 다이아나는 빌의 상품성을 꿰뚫고는 사장에게 빌을 해고해서는 안된다고 설득한다. 빌은 다시 방송을 하게 되지만 직업적 스트레스로 인한 정신병이 점점 심해져간다.

유명 TV 앵커맨인 존 태너는 오랜만에 그의 버클리 대학 동기생들과 모임을 갖기로 한다. 그러나, 갑자기 CIA에서 존 테너를 부른다. 모임에 참가키로한 그의 친구들이 모두 소련 KGB의 첩자이고 뭔가 음모가 진행되고 있다는 것이다. 존 태너와 그의 가족들은 갑자기 테러의 공포에 휩싸이고 만다. CIA에서는 그들을 일망타진 하기위한 계획을 세우고 존 태너에게 협조를 요청한다. 결국 모임은 예정대로 이루어지고 CIA의 페시트가 이들의 일거수 일투족을 폐쇄회로 TV를 통해 살핀다. 그러나, 진실은 오히려 페시트가 자신의 복수를 위해 KGB를 끌어들인 역공작이었음을 알게된 존 태너는 TV를 이용해 페시트를 속이고 그를 제거하려 한다.

안나는 어느날 바의 여자 화장실에서 한여자가 잔인하게 살인당하는 소리를 듣고 그 범인을 목격하게 된다. 그 범인은 뉴욕 경찰 프레슈어였다. 그때부터 안나에게 음란한 전화가 계속되고 그녀는 서서히 알지 못할 전화 주인공의 은밀한 유혹에 말려 들어가게 된다. 누군가가 그녀를 미행하기 시작한다. 안나는 추적자가 전화의 주인공인 줄 아나 실은 제리민과 프레슈어의 협박을 받은 자들이었다. 답답한 안나는 자신의 비밀을 친구인 코리에게 말하고 둘의 친구인 빌이 어두운 뉴욕의 뒷골목에서 안나와 함께 위험한 상황에 몰려들게 된다. 사건이 이외의 방향으로 얽히면서 발전하기 시작한다.
