(2015년 제16회 전주국제영화제) 리뷰 은 복잡다단한 인간심리, 상호의존성, 서로에게 독으로 작용하는 인식, 우정과 증오의 인척관계에 대한 기묘한 탐구이다. 수다스럽고 신랄한 유머로 가득했던 알렉스 로스 페리의 전작 에 비교하자면 이 영화는 잉그마르 베리만이나 로만 폴란스키를 연상케하는 편집증적인 실내극에 비견할 만하다. 호젓한 호숫가 저택에서 상처를 치유하려는 캐서린과 버지니아. 아버지의 죽음, 깨어진 연애로 인해 위기를 맞은 캐서린은 회복을 위해 버지니아와 동거를 시작한다. 우정과 화해의 시간이 될 것으로 보였던 두 친구의 만남은 묵혀두었던 구원(舊怨)과 충돌의 악몽으로 변한다. 인간들 사이에서 발생하는 감정의 난기류와 격분에 찬 적의, 아둔한 자기몰입, 나르시시즘에서는 로스 페리의 고유한 색깔을 느낄 수 있다. 원 쇼트로 찍힌 탁월한 독백 장면들에서 배우들의 연기가 볼만한데, 전작 에서부터 알렉스 로스 페리와 협력해온 엘리자베스 모스의 히스테리컬한 캐릭터는 압도적이다.
