At the height of the 1980s AIDS epidemic, Cuban boxing champion Horacio's punishment for failing a drug test is to watch over the brash, combative Daniel, a patient in a sanatorium where HIV patients are compulsorily confined. The two collide as Daniel yearns for freedom while Horacio dreams of returning to the ring.

A charming comedy about going on a rather long walk. Félix is a laid-back guy living in the bleak northern coastal town of Dieppe. He lives happily with his lover Daniel and is a soap opera enthusiast and HIV-positive. After losing his job, Félix decides to find the father he never knew in Marseilles. 젊은 시절 부푼 꿈을 안고 고향인 관타나모와 사랑하는 연인 칸디도를 두고 떠난 가수 요지타(콘치타 브란도)가 50년 만에 귀향한다. 고향을 떠난 사이 요지타는 유명 가수가 되어 인기를 누렸지만, 연인인 칸디도(라울 에구렌)는 색소폰을 부는 악사로 고향에만 묶여 지낸다. 조카인 조르지나(미타 이바라)의 집에 머물던 요지타는 칸디도와 재회의 기쁨을 누리며 옛날을 회상하다가 숨을 거두고 만다. 한편 고향을 떠난 사람들의 장례식 문제로 각 지역 임원들과 회의를 하던 조르지나의 남편 아돌포(카를로스 크루즈)는 각 지역에서 시신을 운반하는 차량을 교대하는 방법을 사용하자고 제안한다. 때마침 요지타가 사망하자 요지타의 시신을 관타나모에서 바야모로, 바야모에서 라스 투나스로 운반하기로 한다. 평생 요지타를 사랑한 칸디도도 이 시신 운송 여행에 동참한다. 그러나 사랑하는 여인을 두 번이나 떠나보내고 슬픔과 애도에 잠긴 칸디도와는 달리, 긴 여정 속에서 아돌포는 자신의 신용을 회복하려는 광적인 욕심을 내비치고, 운전기사인 토니는 밀수 물품 운반을 도모한다. 아돌포는 원래의 계획보다 더 경제적이고 신속하게 시신을 운반하고자 하지만, 자동차가 고장 나고, 임산부를 병원까지 데려다 주는 등 갖가지 문제들이 발생한다. 한편 조르지나는 대학에서 학생들을 가르치던 시절, 자신에게 사랑의 편지를 전했던 마리아노와 몇 번씩 마주치게 되고 결국 그와 사랑에 빠진다. 여행을 하면서 많은 생각을 하게 된 칸디도는 조르지아에게 스스로의 인생을 스스로 결정하라는 조언을 하고, 조르지아는 이제까지 순종만 하던 남편에게 자신의 의견을 주장하기 시작한다. The film follows the characters' coming out with all its difficulties, the bitter-sweet pleasures of first love and the dreadful moment when one comes down to reality and realizes that one's beloved friend has a hard way to go yet. 소련군의 아프가니스탄 침공 시, 아프간 바나란군인 무자하딘 게릴라들과 전투와중에 소련 탱크 한 대가 행로를 이탈하여 고립되게 된다. 이 소련 탱크는 아프간 사막을 가로질러 부대로 복귀하려고 하지만 너무도 잔혹한 기갑 장교의 만행으로 남편과 가족을 잃은 아프간 반군의 끈질긴 추격이 계속되면서 피 터지는 싸움이 계속된다. 한편, 소련 탱크 내에는 철학도인 코버첸코라는 청년이 타고 있었고, 그는 광폭하고 잔인한 탱크 지휘관 다스칼이라는 인물과 항상 의견 다툼 끝에 사막에 버려지게 된다. 허허로운 사막의 뙤약볕 아래의 바위에 묶어 놓고 가버린다. 그것은 둘 중 하나 야생동물의 밥이 되거나 복수심에 불타 좇아오고 있는 적, 아프간 민병대의 손에 처참한 죽음을 맞거나 하는 경우 밖엔 없는 가혹한 형벌이었다. 그러나 아프간 반군 지도자인 타이는 버려진 고버첸코를 죽이지 않고 전쟁 중에 획득한 소련 탱크 포를 주며 자신들의 편에 서서 싸우게 만든다. 이제 코바첸코는 자신을 버리고 비인간적인 살상행위를 일삼는 맹목전인 살인마인 자신의 조국, 상관을 죽이기 위해 적군과 동행하며 사력을 향해 그를 뒤쫓는다. 전쟁은 국가도 이념도 없이 단지 인간 존재의 기본 이념만으로 목숨을 걸고 싸우는 아비규환만이 남았을 뿐이다.
