은행털이범 세스 게코(조지 클루니)와 리치 형제는 멕시코로 안전하게 탈출하기 위해 목사 가족을 인질로 삼는다. 목사 가족의 트레일러에 몸을 숨겨 무사히 국경을 통과한 후, 이들은 은신처를 제공할 조직과의 접선을 위해 술집으로 들어간다. 술집 안으로 들어서자 무희들이 춤추는 모습이 보이고, 일행은 테이블에 앉아 술을 마신다. 술이 조금씩 오르는 중에 바텐더와 시비가 붙어 격투를 벌어지고, 두 형제는 총으로 종업원들을 쏴 버린다. 댄서들은 피를 보는 순간 흡혈귀의 본성을 드러내고, 죽은 줄 알았던 이들이 모두 흡혈귀로 변해 손님들을 공격하는데...

뉴욕의 한 아파트 앞. 공연을 끝내고 돌아올 애인을 기다리는 칼라와 루. 두 여자는 대화 도중, 자신들이 기다리는 애인이 같다는 사실을 알고 놀란다. 둘은 애인 브레이크의 아파트 창문을 깨고 들어가 얘기를 나누며 상처받게 된다. 그녀들은 숨어서 브레이크 집으로 들어와 전화를 통해 칼라와 루 모두에게 감미롭고 황홀한 메시지를 남기는 것을 목격하게 된다. 이에 그녀들은 브레이크 앞에 나타나게 되고 브레이크는 당황스러워한다. 칼라와 루는 브레이크를 계속 다구치지만 그는 진심으로 두 여자에게서 동시에 사랑의 감정을 느꼈었다며 특유의 이기적인 언변과 연기로 스스로를 정당화해 나가기 시작한다. 높아지는 언성 속에서 브레이크는 서랍에서 무언가를 꺼내들고 욕실로 달려간다. 곧 이어 들려오는 총소리. 칼라와 루는 달려가고 머리 주위가 피로 뒤범벅이 되어 있는 브레이크를 발견한다. 이에 칼라와 루는 서로 다른 반응을 보이는데...

프랜신 피쉬포(디바인)은 아내 몰래 비서(밍크 스톨)와 바람을 피우며 소일하고 포르노에 열중하는 엘머의 아내로 오랜 세월 고통받아왔다. 그녀의 탈선한 자식들로는 펑크족과 어울리는 방랑자 딸과 발을 숭배하는 아들이 있다. 설상가상으로 그녀의 개는 '안녕, 비정한 세상'이라는 메모를 남기고 냉장고에 목을 매어 자살을 하고 도벽이 있는 그녀의 엄마는 딸의 물건을 훔친다. 혼란에 빠진 가여운 프랜신은 술독에 빠져 엄청나게 살이 찌다가 어느 날 토드 투모로우(탭 헌터)에게 구원을 얻는다. 그는 폴리에스터를 입은 상냥한 남자로 세상에 알려지지 않은 마르그리트 뒤라스의 영화를 주로 상영하는 드라이브인 예술극장의 주인이다.

Meanwhile, we learn something about her own fetish when she sneaks into a hospital and puts on a nurse's outfit. When the moment of their meeting is at hand, will she accept his gift?
