두 여자 사이에서 갈등하는 건축가 빈센(Vincent Eastman: 리차드 기어 분). 그는 가정보다 일에 대한 애착심이 더 강한 사업 파트너인 샐리(Sally Eastman: 샤론 스톤 분)에 대해 16년동안 성적 불만을 품어왔다. 그러다가 그는 어느날 경매장에서 잡지사 기자인 올리비아(Olivia Marshak: 로리타 다비도비치 분)를 만나 열애에 빠진다. 올리비아와 동거하면서 미래를 약속하지만 16년이란 결혼 생활과 딸 미건에 대한 미련때문에 이혼하지도 못하고 새출발도 하지 못하는 빈센은 올리비아와 집을 짓고 살자는 계획을 미뤄가면서 추억을 회상하며 더욱 방황하고 만다. 어느날 빈센과 셀리가 공동작업한 박물관 준공기념 리셉션에 불쑥 찾아온 올리비아와 말다툼을 하고나서 그녀와 헤어질 것을 다짐하고 이별 편지를 쓴다. 편지를 부치지 못하며 고민하던중 우유배달하는 노인과 그의 손녀딸을 만나는데 빨강머리를 본 순간 비로소 올리비아에 대한 사랑을 확인하게 되며 그녀의 응답전화기에 청혼과 사랑의 메세지를 남기고 약속장소를 정해 만나자고 하지만 도중에 교통사고를 당하고 만다. 사고 소식을 듣고 병원으로 간 샐리는 남편의 사망소식을 전해듣고 애통해하지만 그의 소지품 속에 들어있던 편지를 읽고 남편이 그녀에게 되돌아가기로 결심한 것으로 믿는다. 한편 약속장소로 올리비아는 빈센의 사고를 알고 병원으로 간다. 그의 죽음을 전해들은 올리비아는 그곳에서 샐리를 만나지만 사고 이전 빈센으로부터 받은 전화내용을 그녀에게 말하지 않으며 샐리도 갖고 있던 편지를 그녀에게 건내주지 않고 헤어진다.

맨하탄에 사는 17살 리사, 모자 쇼핑을 나갔다가 거리에서 자신이 찾던 디자인의 모자를 쓴 버스 운전자를 발견하고 바디 랭귀지를 주고받는다. 운전 중이던 버스 기사는 리사를 신경쓰다가 신호를 보지 못하고 보행자를 치는 사고를 내고, 버스에 치인 여성은 죽게 된다. 한 사람의 생명을 앗아간 끔찍한 사고의 간접적인 유발 요인이자 목격자가 된 리사는 경찰에게 버스 기사의 과실을 축소시키는 거짓 진술을 하고 이내 후회에 빠진다. 죄책감으로 황폐해진 그녀는 가족, 친구, 선생님, 무엇보다 자기 자신을 잔인하게 괴롭히기 시작한다. 그런 그녀에게 마주해야 하는 한 가지 진실이 있다. 어린 청년의 이상이 현실과 타협이라는 어른 세계의 룰을 만나 무너지는 과정에 있다는 것.

This early cinematic instance of a close-up—or, more accurately, a medium close-up shot of the chest and face of the maker of this film and others like it, Georges Demenÿ saying “Je vous aime”—was made at the request of Hector Marichelle, professor and director of the National Deaf-Mute Institute in France, who planned to use filmed speech to teach deaf students to speak and lip read. This required close views of the performer's lip movements. The project was given to Demenÿ by Étienne-Jules Marey, who headed the Station Physiologique in Paris and whose chronophotographic scientific research of motion is among the most important contributions to the invention of movies. Despite these educational and scientific beginnings, however, this project led Demenÿ to pursue and influence the commercialism of cinema.

'피글렛의 티거 놀이'. 티거를 따라하는 것이 즐거워진 피글렛은 티거의 말투와 콩콩 뛰기, 그리고 줄무늬까지 모든 것을 따라한다. 그런데, 티거같은 피글렛이 진짜 티거보다도 좋다는 래빗의 말에 티거는 상처를 받고 마을을 떠나기로 한다. '케시의 세상 공부'. 귀여운 파랑새 케시는 자신이 할 줄 아는 것이 별로 없어서 친구들을 돕지 못한다는 생각에 슬퍼진다. 케시는 올빼미에게 도움을 청하고, 그의 충고에 따라 산책을 나선다. 푸와 래빗, 그리고 피글렛도 케시를 따라 나서지만, 도중에 길을 잃고 만다.
