Two elderly criminals spend their final night in Los Angeles, California at the Golden Eagle Hotel prior to their departure to Las Vegas, Nevada, to lead a life without crime. Unfortunately, on the hottest night of the summer, these two ex-criminals seemingly get caught in the malice of prostitutes, pimps, drunken bums, fighting monkeys, and young runaways.

평범한 청년 짐은 대기업 사장딸 패티와의 약혼식이 장난이 심한 세 친구들에 의해 망쳐지고 집으로 돌아온다. 이날 밤 풀장에서 다름아닌 날개 달린 아름다운 천사를 구해주게 된다. 날개를 다친 천사를 둘러싸고 온갖 사람들의 이해는 엇갈리고 천사는 자신의 다친 날개에 붕대를 감아주는 청년 짐에게 깊은 사랑에 빠져들고 만다. 약혼녀 패티는 자신보다 더 아름다운 여자와 사랑에 빠진 것에 더욱 분노한다. 짐은 천사의 날개를 치료해서 천국으로 되 돌려 보낸 후 의식을 잃고 쓰러진다. 의사는 짐을 포기하지만, 사실 대뇌의 종양으로 생명이 다한 짐을 데리러 왔었던 천사가 짐의 사랑에 감동하여 휴가를 얻어 지상에 다시 내려와 짐의 병을 고쳐 준다. 이후 천사는 짐과 살도록 허가를 받고 행복한 나날을 보내게 된다.
