의사인 테츠이치로는 결핵에 걸린 아내 요리코의 건강을 위해 아내의 고향인 큐슈로 이사를 결심하고 허름하지만 넓은 저택으로 이사를 한다. 그리고 그 집에 병원도 열게 된다. 하지만 이사온 첫날부터 저택으로부터 이상한 기운을 느낀 요리코는 급기야 그녀의 목을 조르는 노파의 공격을 받는다. 처음에는 테츠이치로도 단순히 이사로 인한 스트레스와 요리코의 병이 원인이라고 생각하며 믿지 않았지만, 병원의 간호사까지 비슷한 경험을 하게 되면서 저택과 관련된 끔찍한 과거가 서서히 밝혀지게 된다.
