브룩클린 고등학교 선생님인 아줌마 필스는 레스토랑을 열 계획으로 월급을 더 받을 수 있는 자리인 학교 농구부에 코치를 자청한다. 농구의 농자도 모르는 그녀가 부임해 오자 말썽쟁이 소티, 머리 안좋은 버터, 마약에 젖어있는 스페이스 맨 등 농구부원들은 가뜩이나 엉망진창인 팀에 할머니가 코치로 왔다고 불평이 대단하다. 시합에 나가보지만 이건 진짜 원싸이드 게임. 무참히 패배한 필스와 그 농구단은 심기일전을 다짐하고 연습에 매진한다. 그러나 농구부 주장 오티는 그녀가 돈때문에 코치 일을 자처했고 내년이면 떠난다는 사실을 듣고 실망해 도망을 친다. 그것은 오해, 필스는 주경야독 농구 공부에 매진하고 기막힌 용병술을 발휘해 팀을 이끈다.
