심령술에 빠져 노후를 보내고 있는 드루쎄 부인(키르스텐 롤페스)은 적적함을 달래기 위해 상습적으로 병원에 입원한다. 어느날 그녀는 병원에 어린 소녀 메리의 영혼이 떠돌고 있음을 느끼고 메리의 억울한 죽음에 얽힌 사연을 알게 된다. 메리의 죽음은 의사 헬머(에른스트 휴고 예어가르트)의 의료사고와 관련이 있는 것으로 헬머는 자신의 과오를 숨기기 위해 수술 기록을 없애려 한다. 그러던 어느날 보건 장관이 병원의 감사를 나오면서 헬머 뿐 아니라 킹덤의 행정을 맡고 있는 모즈거드 박사 등 병원 의료진들은 긴장한다. 한편 주디스는 전 애인의 아이를 임신한 사실을 뒤늦게 알게 되고 뱃 속의 태아는 비정상적인 속도로 자라난다. 죽은 메리의 영혼은 점점 더 자주 출몰하고 병원 전체의 묵은 비리가 서서히 드러나기 시작한다.

Emma (Line Kruse) is an eleven year-old only child from a wealthy Danish family. Emma's parents seem more interested in their own interests than in her. She convinces Malthe that she is a Russian princess whose family is being chased by Bolsheviks, so Malthe lets Emma stay with him in his very modest abode. After being "kidnapped" for a few days, Emma decides to return home. But, just as she is about to return, she overhears a couple of servants talking about how her parents don't seem to be very upset over her dilemma....

Efter et sanatorieophold pga. voldelig opførsel under en arrestation, bliver kriminalassistent Karl Jørgensen overført til bedrageriafdelingen. Her opdager Karl en sag, hvor hans ekskone og hendes nye mand er indblandet. Da Karl begynder at undersøge sagen, bliver han stoppet af politimesteren. Karl slår sig sammen med journalisten John Bullnes. De kommer efterhånden tættere på sandheden, men stoppes da en mistænkt begår selvmord. Karl bliver suspenderet og Bullnes sendes til Berlin på en opgave. This is a film about the stuff dreams are made of, yet, there is nothing elevated in this concept, on the contrary. The characters around the bar Strudsen (the ostrich) are doing what ostriches do, hiding themselves from the threats of life and keeping their dreams to themselves. Scriptwriter Benny Andersen being a poet is rendering a loving portrait of a number of persons, who fail to try to make their dreams come true, possibly not being sufficiently dissatisfied with their life after all. The manager would like a bar of his own but dare not admit to it, the butcher would like to be an opera singer, the window cleaner (sorry, window polisher) is secretly in love with the bar lady, but dare not show it and the pianist willingly listens to all the different dreams being presented to him. This film was the best accomplished movie from Henning Carlsen since his debut with 'Sult'.
