Film makers Clem Da Silva (Tomas Milian) and Theo Steiner (Elliott Gould) are childhood friends, although now estranged. While both are gifted and equally passionate about cinema, their destinies couldn’t have been any different – multiple Oscar winner Theo is successful and admired around the world, whereas few have ever heard of Clem, because he often gets to work only for television. Clem has accused Theo of plagiarising his ideas that, to add insult to injury, went on to win awards.

A feuding but very wealthy married couple are planning their divorce while relaxing at luxury hotels in Yugoslavia. The husband decides he wants to get rid of his wife, so hires a hitman. However his wife also has the same planned for her husband, seducing one of her many lovers into doing the job. 마침내 총사가 된 달타냥(마이클 요크 분)은 삼총사인 아토스(올리버 리드 분)와 아라미스(리처드 챔벌레인, 분), 프로토스(프랭크 핀리 분)와 함께 사총사가 되어 국왕인 루이 13세의 명령으로 반란군들에게 사로잡힌 리슐리외(찰턴 헤스턴 분)의 심복 로쉬포르 백작을 구출한다. 밀라디(페이 더너웨이 분)는 콘스탄스를 납치한 뒤 달타냥을 유혹하는데... 밀라디는 원래 아토스가 예전에 사랑하던 여인이었으나, 사냥을 하던 날 우연히 밀라디의 왼쪽 어깨에 찍힌 죄인의 낙인인 백합 문신을 보고 밀라디를 죽였다고 믿고, 아토스는 줄곧 밀라디가 죽은 줄로만 알고 있었다. 달타냥을 유혹하려다 달타냥에게 백합 문신을 들킨 밀라디는 그때부터 달타냥을 죽이려 한다. 한편 리슐리외 추기경은 달타냥에게 자신의 근위대가 되어달라는 부탁을 하지만 달타냥은 추기경의 청을 거절하고, 그때부터 여러 번 살해될 위험에 처한다. 삼총사는 납치된 콘스탄스를 구출해서 안전한 수녀원으로 데려가고, 리슐리외 추기경은 밀라디에게 버킹엄 공작을 만나 반란군들을 돕기 위해 함대를 보내지 말라고 경고하고, 공작이 말을 듣지 않으면 살해하라고 지시한다. 추기경의 명령을 받은 밀라디는 대신 콘스탄스와 달타냥을 제거해달라고 부탁한 뒤 추기경의 서명이 담긴 편지를 받는다. 그러나 밀라디와 리슐리외 추기경의 대화를 엿들은 아토스는 밀라디에게 가서 추기경의 편지를 빼앗고 달타냥을 건드리지 말라고 경고한다. 영국으로 건너간 밀라디는 버킹엄 공작이 추기경의 경고를 무시하자, 공작을 암살하려다가 잡혀서 감옥에 갇히지만, 버킹엄 공작의 부하인 펠튼을 유혹해서 버킹엄 공작을 살해하게 만들고 펠튼의 도움으로 프랑스로 무사히 빠져 나와 달타냥과 콘스탄스를 죽일 계획을 세우는데....

프랑스 루이 13세 시대, 추기경 리슐리외의 권세가 하늘을 찌르고 궁궐 안팎에서는 국왕의 친위대인 총사들과 리슐리외의 근위대 사이에 싸움이 끊이질 않았다. 작은 시골 마을에서 자란 달타냥은 어려서부터 아버지에게 검술을 배워 매우 민첩하고 용감하고 모험심이 강했지만 인내심이 부족해서 하루가 멀다 하고 실수를 저지르는 사고뭉치 젊은이였다. 달타냥은 20세가 되던 해에 총사대에 들어가기 위해 총사대의 트레빌 대장을 만나러 파리로 가서 삼총사인 포르토스와 아라미스, 아토스를 만나고, 여관 주인의 아내인 콘스탄스에게 첫눈에 반한다. 한편 왕비를 사랑하던 버킹엄 공작은 몰래 궁전으로 잠입해서 왕비를 만나 사랑의 증표로 12개의 다이아몬드가 달린 목걸이를 받아간다. 이 사실을 알게 된 리슐리외 추기경은 밀레이디 드 윈터에게 버킹엄 공작을 유혹해서 12개의 다이아몬드 중에서 2개를 훔쳐 오라고 지시한다. 게다가 루이 13세는 왕비에게 자신이 선물로 준 다이아몬드 목걸이를 하고 무도회 때 함께 춤을 추자고 한다. 곧, 왕비의 하녀인 콘스탄스는 달타냥에게 왕비의 친서를 가지고 영국의 버킹엄 공작에게 가서 다이아몬드 목걸이를 받아오라고 부탁한다. 달타냥은 삼총사와 함께 왕비의 친서를 가지고 영국으로 길을 떠나지만, 곳곳에서 잠복 중인 리슐리외 추기경의 부하들을 만나 삼총사들 모두 부상을 입어 달타냥 혼자 버킹엄 공작을 찾아간다. 추기경의 스파이인 밀레이디 드윈터 부인이 이미 다이아몬드 2개를 훔쳐간 사실을 안 버킹엄 공작은 급히 똑같은 다이아몬드를 만들어서 달타냥에게 준다. 다이아몬드 목걸이와 함께 칼을 선물로 받은 달타냥은 무사히 프랑스로 돌아오고, 삼총사의 도움으로 추기경의 부하들을 물리친 뒤, 애타게 기다리던 왕비에게 목걸이를 전해준다. 그리고 왕비를 위기에서 구해준 달타냥은 삼총사의 축하를 받으며 국왕의 친위대인 총사가 된다.

Viviane, a French Consul's wife, is in New Guinea to find exotic feathers for export to Paris. She encounters four European travelers who are en route to "La Vallée": The Valley, high in the Guinean mountains, is shown on maps as 'obscured by clouds' and is beyond their previous experiences. 루이 13세 시대의 프랑스, 리슐리외 추기경(크리스토퍼 로그)은 자신의 통제권 밖에 있는 도시를 장악하기 위해 음모를 꾸민다. 추기경과 그 추종자들이 권력 장악을 위해서는 그랑디에 신부(올리버 리드)를 제거해야 한다. 그랑디에 신부는 요새화된 도시를 운영하는 성직자로 리슐리외 추기경이 프랑스 전체를 장악하는 데 방해가 됐던 것이다. 이에 리슐리외는 권력가이자 호색한인 그랑디에 신부를 고발하기로 하고, 그랑디에 신부에게 성적으로 집착하는 잔느 수녀(바네사 레드그레이브)를 그 음모에 끌어들인다. 악마에 홀려 있는 그 수녀는 그랑디에 신부에 대한 성적인 강박관념에 사로잡힌 인물이다. 악마로 고발당한 그랑디에의 재판이 진행되면서 수녀원은 점차 폭력과 광기로 물들어간다. 광적인 마녀 사냥이 점점 극단적으로 변해 가고 인간의 악마적인 본성이 적나라하게 드러나게 된다.

이 영화는 1971년 제임스 클 라벨(James Clavell)이 감독 한 것으로, 30 년 전쟁 당시의 역사적인 드라마이다. 독일 남부의 종교 전쟁에서 도망친 용병군인과 교사는 우연히 전쟁에 닿지 않은 계곡을 찾아 평화롭게 살게 되는데...
