Miki and her younger brother Robby flee their destructive home and find themselves in the towering metropolis, Los Angeles. There, they meet Sharkey, a pimp. Miki becomes infatuated with Sharkey and starts to work for him. Miki finds herself trapped in Sharkey's dominating world and must find a way to escape the nightmare.

생물학전 실험이 은밀한 곳에서 비밀리에 행해진다. 그 결과 방출된 바이러스는 전염성이 강한 페스트를 유발, 급속하게 전세계로 번져 인류 대부분의 생명을 앗아가고, 변종 인간인 루서스(Lusus: 브류스터 굴드 분)를 탄생시켜 마지막으로 생존해 있는 연구원들을 위협한다. 데이빗 페닝톤(David: 앤드류 스티븐스 분)은 페스트로부터 동료들을 구제하기 위하여 항생제에 필요한 원료를 찾으러 모자브 사막을 횡단하던 중 루서스에게 쫓기고 있는 아이엘(Ariel: 클레어 호악 분)이란 여자를 구해준다. 서로가 외롭던 이들은 급격한 사랑을 나누게 되고 아이엘은 태아를 잉태한다. 피로에 치쳐 서로가 의지하며 고독한 여행을 계속 하던 중 사막의 한 복판에서 뜻밖의 원주민을 만나 항생제 원료의 서식지를 알게 된다. 한편 원주민들은 자기 종족을 보존하기 위해 루서스에게 여자들을 재물로 바쳐왔던 것, 다음날, 데이빗은 항생제 원료를 구하러 떠났고, 그 사리에 아리엘은 루서스의 제물로 바쳐져 강간을 당한다. 뒤늦게 이 사실을 안 데이빗은 루서스를 물리치고 아리엘을 구하지만 그녀의 뱃속에는 이미 루서스의 태아가 데이빗의 아이를 정복하고 급속도로 자라고 있는 상태. 연구소에 도착한 아리엘은 임신한지 10일 만에 루서스를 분만하게 되고 그는 순식 간에 10배로 커져서 연구실을 공포로 몰아넣는다. 루서스는 연구원들을 차례로 죽이고 마지막으로 그를 잉태한 아리엘과 데이빗 앞으로 다가간다.
