‘University Challenge’에 출연하는 것이 어릴 적부터 꿈이었던 ‘브라이언 잭슨’은 브리스톨 대학에 입학하자 바로 그 대회를 준비하는 클럽에 지원하게 되고 필기시험과 인터뷰를 거치면서 최종 대회에 나갈 수 있는 자격을 획득하게 된다. ‘브라이언’은 이 클럽에서 함께 대회를 준비하게 된 동기 ‘앨리스’를 보고 첫눈에 반하게 된다. 그녀의 마음을 얻기 위해 더욱 열심히 대회를 준비하게 된 ‘브라이언’은 단지 대회에 나가는 것만이 아니라 우승을 해서 ‘앨리스’에게 프로포즈를 하겠다고 결심한다. 그리고 대학에 들어와 만나게 된 또 한명의 그녀 ‘레베카’. 신념과 자기 주관이 뚜렷한 ‘레베카’는 금발에 배우 지망생인 미모의 ‘앨리스’와는 전혀 다른 스타일로 ‘브라이언’은 대화가 통하는 즐거움을 느끼게 하는 ‘레베카’에게 자기의 여러 고민과 ‘앨리스’에 대한 애정을 이야기하는 등 비밀이 없는 사이가 되어 간다.
