"AA" is a documentary about Akira Aida (mostly known as Aquirax Aida), a japanese music critic who introduced free jazz, improvisation, and progressive rock to Japan. It's based on interviews with 12 critics and musicians who had connections with him. This is a documentary that considers the past, present and future of improvisation.

열여덟 생일에 노노무라 아미는 먼 친척집을 방문하기 위해 시골 마을에서 떠나온다. 친척의 집을 찾는 도중에 치한들을 만나 폭행을 당하려는 순간, 우연히 옆을 지나가던 친척 오빠인 다사키 히로시의 도움으로 위기를 모면하고 무사히 집에 간다. 첫 만남인데도 이상하게 친근감이 느껴지는 두 사람. 둘은 자연스럽게 키스를 나눈다. 하지만 그 때 들어온 아버지로부터 먼 친척인 “아미”가 시골에서 살았지만 살 곳이 없어져서 이제부터는 한동안 우리집에서 살아야 한다는 이야기를 듣는다. 이렇게 한집에서 살게 된 아미와 히로시는 서로에게 끌리는 마음이 생기지만, ‘히로시’에게는 이미 사랑하는 여자 ‘마도카’가 있다. 그녀의 질투로 두 사람의 관계는 머뭇거리기만 할 뿐 진전이 없다. 천둥이 치던 어느 날 밤, 두려움에 떨던 ‘아미’는 히로시 침대로 오게 되고 두 사람은 더 이상 참았던 감정을 숨기지 못하고 하나가 된다. ‘아미’는 사진 작가가 되려하는 ‘히로시’의 희망을 무시하고 회사원이 되라는 ‘마도카’를 싫어하다가 결국 두 사람은 다투게 되고 ‘히로시’는 ‘마도카’에게 ‘아미’를 좋아 한다고 고백해 버린다. 아미는 친척이지만 사랑하는데 최선을 다하기로 결심한다.
