1987년 뉴욕, 흑인과 라틴계 게이, 트랜스젠더들이 이끌었던 ‘드래그 신’에 관한 영화. ‘볼‘의 참가자들은 그들을 거부했던 가족을 대신해줄 '하우스'를 중심으로 활동하며, 경쟁하는 카테고리에 따라 의상을 입고 분장을 하고 포즈를 취하는 등 역할에 적합한 ’진실성‘을 표출한다. 성별 이분법적이고 이성애 중심적인 사회가 만들어 놓은 언어로는 규정되지 않는 ‘불온한 존재’들을 그린다.
