Stefan and Dolly Oblonsky have had a spat and Stefan has asked his sister, Anna Karenina, to come down to Moscow to help mend the rift. H.G.웰즈의 원작을 영상으로 재구성한 솜씨가 매우 뛰어난 작품이다.이 영화의 줄거리는 제작 시점에서 몇 년 앞인 1940년 제2차 세계대전이 발발하는 것에서부터 시작한다. 그 뒤엔 1970년대의 어느 황폐한 마을의 모습이 등장과 함께 그 마을에서 벌어지는 권력투쟁이 묘사된다. 다시 장면이 바뀌어 서기 2036년, 앞에서 등장했던 마을이 평화롭고 풍요롭고 과학기술이 발달된 유토피아로 탈바꿈하여 나타난다. 그러나 그들은 통치자의 오만함과 사람들의 상상력 결핍이라는 문제를 안고 있는데...마지막 장면에서 한 쌍의 젊은 남녀가 좀 더 희망적인 사회를 건설하리라는 사람들의 기대를 안고 우주로 떠난다는 결말을 보여준다.

An American businessman's family convinces him to buy a Scottish castle and disassemble it to ship it to America brick by brick, where it will be put it back together. The castle though is not the only part of the deal, with it goes the several-hundred year old ghost who haunts it.
