Hiroyuki Imaishi (今石 洋之, born October 4, 1971) is a Japanese key animator and anime/anime influenced animation director and one of the co-founders of Trigger. His style is marked by fast and frantic animation combined with elaborate storyboarding and punchy direction. Prior to founding Trigger, he was an animator and director at Gainax.
His series director debut was Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (2007). The anime received an Excellence Prize at the 2007 Japan Media Arts Festival, and Imaishi himself received an individual award at the twelfth Animation Kobe Festival. In 2008, the anime received both "best television production" and "best character design" from the Tokyo International Anime Fair. Later he went on to work as director in the 2010 anime series, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. His main influence of being an animator and director are Yoshinori Kanada and his works, in which all his anime titles such as Dead Leaves, Gurren Lagann and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt pay special tributes to him and his art.
In 2011, Imaishi branched off Gainax to form a new studio, Trigger, alongside Masahiko Ohtsuka and others. His first directorial work at the studio is Kill la Kill.

This double feature comprises of "Gunbuster" and "Diebuster" (aka "Gunbuster 2") condensed into a single theatrical release told in two parts with a musical intermission in between. The 95-minute "Aim for the Top! Gunbuster" movie is a compilation of the original 6-episode Gunbuster OVA, where man first meets the insect aliens and builds fighting robots and huge battleships to combat them. Takaya Noriko and Amano Kazumi lead the fight, doing massive damage to the insect's world. The 100-minute "Aim for the Top 2! Diebuster" movie completes the series, with country girl Nono leading the "Topless" fighters to protect Earth from the invading insects.

바다에 떠 있는 유리병 속에 꽃과 보석상자 등이 잔뜩 그려진 오마츠리섬의 지도와 ‘당신은 그랜드 라인을 항해하는 1억 명 중에서 뽑힌 행운의 해적입니다!’라는 편지가 함께 들어 있는 것을 발견한 밀짚모자 해적단. 당연히 오마츠리섬으로 방향을 틀고 그곳으로 향하는데 루피 일행이 도착한 오마츠리섬은 너무나도 평범한 섬이다. 루피 일행의 앞에 갑자기 등에 꽃을 피우고 있는 오마츠리 남작이 나타난다. 지옥의 시련을 견디면 보물을 주겠다고 제안하는 남작의 말에 루피는 선선히 수락하지만 기장천외한 캐릭터들의 이상한 공격으로 밀짚모자 해적단 일행들이 하나씩 사라지는 최악의 상황 속에 빠져들게 된다.

서기 2000년. 남극에 거대한 운석이 추락하여 엄청난 재난 세컨드 임팩트가 발생한다. 원래는 아담과 제 2사도의 접촉으로 일어난 일이지만, 이 사실을 숨기기 위해 비밀집단 제레의 정보 조작으로 운석의 추락으로 처리된다. 해수면의 상승과 천재지변, 경제의 붕괴, 민족분쟁, 내란 등이 연속해서 발생하고 결국 세계의 인구 중 절반만이 살아남는다. 그 사이 생체병기를 만들기 위한 E계획이 한창 진행중이었다. E계획의 주축은 세컨드 임팩트 이후 살아남았던 이카리 겐도, 이카리 유이와 아카기 나오코, 그 후 겐도의 권유로 새로 영입된 겐도와 유이의 학창 시절의 대학교수 후유츠키 코조였다.
