중세기 귀족으로 그 동료들에 의해 악마, 궁인, 정치가, 연금술사, 기사라는 뜻으로 불리웠으며 강한 힘의 소유자로 신체적인 죽음을 초월할 수 있다고 알려진 드라큐라는 헝가리에 있는 본인의 성을 매입하러 온 젊은 영국인 변호사를 감금시키고 그 약혼녀 친구인 루시 집 근처에 저택을 구입, 밤에 루시가 밖으로 나오도록 하여 흡혈귀로 만든다. 루시의 약혼자 아더는 의사 헬싱으로부터 흡혈귀에 대해 설명을 듣는다. 헬싱은 흡혈귀가 되어 아더를 유인하는 루시를 쫓아 죽이고, 드라큐라는 이의 복수로 변호사 애인 미나를 흡혈귀로 만들고 도망친다.
